Mark Hoppus Tone???

You forgot to mention that one guitar player in Blink 182 really hogs the frequency spectrum for one guitar player, doesn't he?

No, if we're knocking bass players for not cutting through a mix I don't see why it should matter what kind of mix they're up against, since, from what I've read, the opinion is that all bass players are supposed to cut through the mix, am I right? So that puts Metallica's bass players, just for one example, in the same boat as Mark Hoppus.

But why are you so quick to want to differentiate them? Because I have the sneaking suspicion some people here are just trying to justify an anti-Blink 182 sentiment with all this business. It's ok to dislike Blink 182, lord knows I do. But the great thing about musical taste is we don't have to justify it with all this business about not cutting through a mix. That's hogwash anyways because there's plenty of bass players, maybe the bass players from Metallica for example, that are going to be held in higher regard in some people's musical tastes, even though they still don't "cut through the mix".

I think you're getting a little excited about this and missing what I'm saying. Just relax, I'm not here to argue and personally I couldn't care less if someone wanted to hate on Mark Hoppus' tone, but I think it's an interesting conversation, and I thought it would be fun to play the devil's advocate.

Well thats all in good fun, really. I wasn't trying to seem excited, but I guess things can come off that way. I was doing just as you, holding the conversation from my point of view.

But still, I think we should try to take it from 'defending/crucifying Mark Hoppus' to 'getting the results that the OP requested,' which is why I'm continually talking about the EQing. And I think that all the advice that can be given has, from myself, and many others, so I say we just sit back and wait for this off topic discussion to get either closed or moved to bassists/recordings.

I'm IN LOVE with Mark Hoppus's tone from his Blink 182 days.

A great example of the sound I'm talking about is their 2000 private show in San Diego. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=yYxq-r77Y1o)

Does anyone know what settings i need to get this tone?

I'm using a 1998 Fender Jazz and a KUSTOM PA system, the exact model I'm not sure of. There is no bass input on said PA so its just through one of the regular inputs.

:help: :help: :help: :help:

the quickest way to get that tone is to stuff **** in your ears. that should sound just like it!
