Which cabs would you choose to pair up under a Little Mark Tube 800?

1. Standard 151HR
2. Traveler 151P
3. New York 151
4. Other (define)

I've searched a few times trying to find more details specifically comparing the 15" cabs. Most threads are usually about 2x10 & 1x15 combos, or stacking a 15" under a Markbass combo. Feel free to describe what you like/dislike about these cabs, and what you think would make them good/bad to stack on top of each other.

Specs (per Markbass site)

Standard 151HR - 52.9 lbs -- W 23.40 x H 23.80 x D 18.90
Traveler 151P ---- 37.3 lbs -- W 18.30 x H 23.39 x D 17.05
New York 151 ---- 37.3 lbs -- W 18.30 x H 18.30 x D 18.90

(As a side note, I'm also very interested in the brand new tolex covered, kick-back Club 151. But, since they aren't available yet......)

thanks!!!

i like the standard and the traveler, not so much the little one. standard sounds bigger, but the traveler sounds pretty big already, and two of them would sound huge. i'd rather stack two travelers than two standards, but the big cab does have a bigger low end, so that might be attractive to you.

A pair of Travelers stacked taller would gain a lil bit of height (almost 47 inches), where as a pair of the NY would only be about 36 inches... yet, both weigh the same.

I wonder how much different the NY compares to the Traveler? Has anyone directly compared these to each other?

I once had the same question (NY vs. Traveler construction) sent email to MB and never got an answer. I have never been able to hear any of the NY cabs onther than the 4X6, mostly because any GC by me only has the Standard 15 or Traveler 15 on display. I am pretty sure the driver is the same in all three 15s, I'm not certain if the tweeters are diff., then you take into account the dimensions and porting (front for Standard, and Rear for NY and Traveler). I have to believe the NY and Traveler sound a lot alike, with only the Standard being a bit stronger in the low end due to better resonance (heftier size) and porting. Maybe you should try PM'ing Peter Murray.

I'm looking to purchase 15" cab but do not know the difference between the NY and the traveler. Except, the NY has the handle on the top in comparison to the side handles on the traveler. But, I'm bias to the NY since I live in NYC :)

I a/b'd the traveler and the nyc 151 when it first came out and it was really interesting. The traveler did not sound like a strong 15" to me, it was kind of farty and anemic next to the NYC which was one very impressive 15". I would describe the NYC 15" as very live, punchy, solid, and with a good strong 15" somewhat warm tone, esp for its size/weight. I almost wonder if there was something wrong w/ the traveler as it was sad and cheap sounding in comparison, maybe it had been beat up at the GC it was at. The same bass head was used w/ each(can't recall unfortunately what it was) and I could not make the NYC fart out where the other one did easily. The NYC sort of reminded me of the bag end 15" I used to have years ago which did what it was supposed to do fairly well. Honestly had I been able to a/b the BE 15" with the NYC(which I wasn't able to) it would not have surprised me a bit if I would have preferred the NYC. It is a seriously under appreciated 15" .

THE TRAVELER 151P WEIGHS 44.75 LBS., not 37.3 lbs. Check the website. I'm the one who got Markbass to change it. It was a misprint. The cab was redesigned in 2007, but the weight listing never got changed until just recently. I have a thread on here about it ("Markbass Traveler 151P cab weight").

I'm getting ready to purchase an additional Traveler 151P, so I'll be running two of them. I have a $500 gig coming up that I'll throw a little extra into. I'll let yas know how it goes when I get it (it'll be about a month from now). I'll be running them through my Little Mark III head.

I really like my Traveler.

I asked a similar question to the Markbass help guys and here is a summary of what they said.

The Standard 151HR if you want to have a big, full sound, and are not too worried about portability

The Traveler 151P if you want to find a middle ground between “big sound” and portability

The Club 151 if you want something really portable, and don’t feel you need extra bottom end, just more volume and headroom.

I've heard it put that way before. Sounds about right.

I wonder where the NY151 fits in? Any idea?

And what did they say about the NY?
I just got one used and it's impressive sounding, very warm and full. I still haven't used it super loud...I have a Celestion 15" Kappa LF in a GK cab and it can't be beat for handling power. It's just so heavy and the rehearsal space stairs are too narrow.
