MARKBASS 4x6 cab aka. NY 604

I hooked one of my MB NY604's up to my CMD 121p tonight and it sounded a lot thicker on the low end then when I had my other MB 12 cab hooked up to it. It sounded really smooth too, so I think I will play with this setup for awhile :-) The other cab has a much more mid range sound than the deep low end sounding NY604 cabs.

I bought a LM II and a NY604 cab this weekend. I haven't played it too much yet but I'm pretty impressed. I wanted to get an LM II and there was one in an auction I attended this weekend. As it happened they had the NY 604 in the auction too. I picked it up cheap after getting the LM II.

Regarding "farting out" - I haven't had too much play time yet but I did find that it changed as I played with the VLE and VPF controls. I'll play some more this week and report. But I must say I am pretty damned impressed considering the size. Very loud and apparently capable of being very crisp and precise. Like it's all about dialing it in just right.

Though I'd resurrect this thread rather than start a new one as there isn't a whole stack of info here on TB regarding this cab...

I was fortunate enough to be given a NY 406 and a NY 151 to take on the road with me this last weekend as we were tight on space so even one of my Hartke 4.5XL cabs was gonna be too big for the vehicles we had available.

I ran my Eden Nav though the Crown 1500XLS bridged into the two cabs stacked. The plan was that I would take my IEM setup and a smaller rig as a bass stage monitor for the other guys. As it turns out, the rig was more than capable of meeting our high volume requirements.

Everyone including the engineer was blown away by the volume and tone coming out of this small rig! I ran everything completely flat at the eq with no enhance and the sound was wonderful and full. I was amazed at how well the 406 handled the low B string without any breakup even at high volume.

As other guys have mentioned in this thread, the 406 is not a very aggressive cab as you would expect a 4x6 cab to be, but is rather voiced quite smooth and punchy similarly to how I would expect the SWR 8x8 would sound. The 151 helped to give a bit more volume and depth to the sound but I prefered the tone from the 406.

I know markbass cabs are not for everyone and some of the others I have tried (especially the single 12 cabs) have had an upper mid honk to them, but I can tell you that the 406 is not voiced the same. It definitely is worth a try if you are looking for a rig that can provide good volume and tone without the weight and size

A stack of 2 x 406 cabs would be the perfect traveling rig for me, now if only they weren't so damn expensive!

I just got one of these the other day and used it last night on a gig with about 12 hand drummers with congas, djembes, 2 guitarsist and a trap drum set and this cab really held its own in a decent size room. I'm using an AI Focus Series III amp to drive it and playing a Modulus Quantum 6, plenty of low D's did not result in any farting out. I'll be using it again today for two shows of "The Wizard of Oz" and then tomorrow for my church gig. This little box is impressive.

$1600 is a BIG fEarful cab....for $800 you could get a really sick 3-way fEarful design that would do some serious damage. I mean if the tone and $$ is there, more power to ya but it's kinda hard to see what the draw is if the tone isn't phenomenal :hmm:

(bumping this thread instead of asking this in my "teeny but worth it" thread)

i'm curious to see exactly how these things sound, especially in the mix. everyone seems to be saying they've got huge lows.... i'm curious to see exactly how huge.

like most other posters in this thread, i bought a minimark and am looking for an extension cabinet.

I owned one of these before and sold it. I always wondered what two of them would sound like. So I recently purchased two used 604s set to arrive tomorrow. I will gig them this weekend at a festival and see if it will be as awesome as I hope.

I always found the cab I had to be extremely dependable and with more bottom than most other cabs I have owned including 410s, 310s and 212s. One thing I think many need to consider when driving these cabs is to provide them with plenty of power. I have never heard these cabs fart. They are 600 watts at 8 ohms. Underpowering them sounds lame. I will be powering with either Shuttlemax 9.2 or my Epifani custom 902. Both adequate power matches.

Since there is not a lot of feedback on these cabs, and they don't make them anymore, I just wanted to bump this thread. The used prices offer great flexibility in trying these out as you can usually get what you pay for them should you not care for them.

Marco really likes to roll the dice and refresh his lines regularly. Im guessing the non traditional format was not a huge seller. I get nothing but compliments on my NY604 stack. it's like a mini 8x10 with lots of bark and punch that's super portable.
