MARKBASS 4x6 cab aka. NY 604

resurrecting this thread...i liked the 604 and i'm thinking of getting a pair...here's my situation...i'm going back to another sea-going command soon (read: submarine) and i'm thinking of getting a small cab to take to sea with me...i like MB heads, and i will probably always have one...i recently sold my second LMII and i have a LMIII on the way, but from what i've read, i may want to pair the 604 with the F1...thinking of having two 604's for whatever may come and taking one cab with me underway for entertaining the crew and some little jams that always happen on boats at sea...so, is the opinion still the same concerning two of these little guys? killin'? my local GC has never had more than one of these...sounded great with the skjold that was there for so long and a couple of mtd's that have gone through...

I've oggled a 604 for a while. I use a mini mark on a lot of small gigs w/ my trio (pop/rock - acoustic/vox, bass, drums) a lot of places we play are too small for my avatar 212/LMII and the mini mark works just fine...well sometimes I wish I had just a little more which is why I was considering the 604/LMII setup.

for the price, I'm now considering the orange s212 - ruffly similar size/weight/price. wish there was a local place I could play both . . .

I have the NY604 and MiniMark set up and love them! I have played a few gigs with them, and find myself having to turn them down so I can hear every boddy else. With that said, I play with a easy going rock band that doesn't get too loud. It has two guitar players, with two twelve combos, and a drummer. Sometimes a keyboard player going through the PA with the singer. I think that two of the NY604 cabs played with a head could handle a lot more than my setup.

I want to add a Little mark III head or an F1500 in a few weeks, but can't make up my mind which one to get.

the only band practice they will probably be going to is on a submarine where no one brings any heavy equipment...but, if they do, i will let ya know...from what i've read, and i've only tried the LMII with a single 604, they work a little better with the F1, which i haven't tried...interested, though, as the F1 is smaller, and on a boat, smaller is better

Not to derail your thread, but could you tell me why better? I can't make up my mind which Markbass head to get with my cab.

I bet that has to feel a little strange jaming on your Markbass gear in the belly of a sub! Thats really cool.

from what a few TB'ers have said, pete murray included, the digital power section seems to like the 604 better...i haven't tried it, personally, with that cab...i've played lots on the sub...always a bunch of geetars brought underway...we called the last i was in 'the shaft alley cats' ...had a blast...

Someone posted a pic of the Markbass MiniMark 2x6 combo laid horizontally atop a 604 cab not too long ago, i'll try to hunt it down....
it seems to me it'd be an ideal rig for your sub needs (please, pardon the pun...i couldn't resist)

Hey there, has anyone tried to use this cab w/ the newyork 12? Been considerring the two for a tiny 4ohm stack w/ decent power handling. Probably would use with the LMII, GB Shuttle 6, or TC RH450. Maybe an SVT450. Hmmm. But yeah, anyways if anyone has tried this little guy with the 12 give a little shout. How do they sound?

Yes, looks cool really, but, the minimark's amp has 250 watts of power at 4 Ohms, while the NY604 is a 600 watts cab. So it will be driven only by 125 watts of power in that configuration. Am I wrong? I'm quite new on these calculations.
Yet, according to the MB web site it's the perfect extention cab for the minimark combo...
I would have still prefered another 2x6 instead. Or even better would be an F500 and a NY604 alone, especially under sea level. ;)

Man, I would l have loved it if they would had sold a "2x6 "! I am in the process of buying a Markbass head for it, and using the combo for a backup power source. All in all, the setup is wicked loud. Especially if you put the rear ported cab up against the wall.

Thanks for all the kind words. It has been a lot of fun seeing peoples reaction to this setup.

I just got a 604 yesterday, used it on a gig last nite. I had NO problems with it farting out with my MM Stingray 30th Anniversary>Shure UHF Wireless>MB F1. Used just a pinch of PA to boost it, but did a walkthrough of the club prior to kicking off the nite and was amazed at how well it projected, not to mention that it had some seriously tight bottom going on. Got my attenuator on the cab set right in the middle, as my bass has some sizzle. Set my low at around 1 o'clock, lo mid matching, hi mid at noon, hi matching, VLE at 0, VPF at 2 o'clock, sounded great. A lot more low end than you'd expect, given it's diminutive visage...I "need" to get another one, to give me a full 4-ohm load and 500W...;)

Tried one of these at GC Las Vegas~ with an SD1200 plugged into it. I actually thought it was a 112 until I took a closer look at it. Very good cab~ I can't imagine faster response for slapping and nice even tone with the 4 string P Bass I was playing. Two of them would be killer.
