markbass little mark 2

Funny I saw this post--

I just played one at GC yesterday.

Sounds surprisingly good through 6x10, 4x10 and 8x10 cabs.

they did have the same head in a 2x10 MB combo...that I didnt care for... looked like the speakers were gonna fly outta the cab everytime I dug in and hit the bass hard...

they also had a 2x10 MB cab there - VERY lightweight. Unreal.

the MB head is worth checking out.
Just for the weight/size alone....

it sounded pretty good with a Musicman.
Never clipped.

But when I tried it with a Jazz Active Deluxe, it did clip easily.

I also tried a GK 500 watt head, that is even SMALLER!
and it jammed too... .unreal how they are doing this...
I just wonder if there are issues with performance if the unit is played hard for 3 hrs ya know?

in my own defence, they were talking about putting a guitar center up here... no, sorry, i live in the most music-store-less area known to man... Central PA. and not the fake central pa, like harrisburg or lancaster... the real one, about half an hour west of penn state university. none of the stores here carry them, and when i was talkning to the one guy (that works in my local music store) about amps and what i could get for decent power and decent price, i mentioned mark bass and he had never heard of them. but he was wearing a spector t-shirt. amazing. any way, yea, i've found some stuff.

anyone know how they sound in a modern rock setting? scooped mids style with an active bass??

i was in a cover band for about a year that played modern rock and it sounded great. my bass is active as well, you can pretty much get whatever sound you want out of it, if you've got a good bass and good fingers, you'll end up with the sound you want. theres a knob as well on the bass that scoops the mids for you. hope this helps man

The LMII is the best solid state amp ever made IMHO. It was very easy to dail in my sound, which is flat with a 5k rolloff, made easy with the VLE knob. I never scoop mids, but it also has a variable mid-scooping knob called the VPF. Now if you're looking for an amp that will add some grit to your sound along with the mid scoop, look elsewhere, but for clean tones it's unbeatable by anything without a chassis full of tubes and an Ampeg logo on the front.

A couple of things:

1) The Markbass speakers are designed to have a lot of movement in the cones. This is no problem (i.e., they won't 'blow up' any more than any other speaker). It's one of the ways they get all that low end out of their smaller cabs.

2) The type of bass should have not impact on the amp 'clipping'. My guess is, you saw the input clip light come on. This is what it is supposed to do, and indicates the optimal input gain level for basses with various levels of output.
