Markbass LMII Cabinet Recommendations

Hi everyone,

I recently took up the bass after playing guitar for 20+ years. I play in a 6 piece garage band group with 2 guitars, keyboard, drums and vocals, playing mainly vintage R&R. We do a few small to mid-size gigs per yr. I play a '78 Fender Mustang bass, and am currently using a Markbass 104HF 4x10 cab with my LMII.

While I love the sound from the 104HF, it is just too damm big. So I am thinking of selling it and getting something more portable. Cabinets on my short list are an Epifani UL2 210, DR Bass 2x12, or DR Bass 2x10 + possible 112LF down the road.

I was wondering what others are using and would recommend with the LMII? I still will need something that goes pretty loud (not an issue for the 104HF). Has anyone compared the above Epi or Dr Bass cabs, or others, with a Markbass 4x10? I have read great things about the Epi, how do the Dr Bass Cabs compare? Also, the $900 list price that the Epi goes for, is my upper price limit.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Been having a grand old time running the new LMII through the Aguilar GS 2x12 (4 ohms - full power :bassist:). I find it to not be too intrusive or difficult to move - especially with the casters - and it holds up even with the loudest drummer.

Frankly, if you need to get "pretty loud", I would advise against any 2x10 for standalone use. I've used some of the beefiest 2x10s out there (Eden XLT, Acme) and the rig never quite held its own until I got the 2x12.

Just got a Schroeder 1212L for use with my LMII and I couldn't be happier. It gives me the best on stage sound I have ever had and FOH the bass sits in the mix so much better than before. A lot of Schroeder users are LMII owners and all are very happy.

+1 to all the above:

- For massive punch in a small box, the small Schroeder cabs

- For wide, even, pure, modern tone, the EpiUL cabs

- Sitting right between the above 2, the Bergantino AE cabs.... almost as punchy as the Schroe's, but with some of the more even response and low end extension of the EpiUL's

Forget this Berg/Schroeder/Epi stuff! Ampeg B-15N double baffle cabs are the best sounding cabs with the LMII ;)

I recommend the replica cabs that Link Removed builds. Fairly lightweight, absolutely stellar workmanship, and who can argue with Ampeg blue checker tolex? Sure, there's no tweeter, but who needs it? ;)

I'm just busting chops about the other makes of cabs...they're all great, and they all sound wonderful with the LMII. But to this day, I haven't heard a better 15" cab than the double baffle.

Well that sort of answers my question in that other thread about whether my Ampeg cabs would work!:D
