The Minimark is available at the GC in my town, have your
GC rep do a search by region to locate one, if not I can put you in contact with my GC rep, I think he has 2 in stock.

You could, but you'd be stacking two preamps together, the external one AND the LMII. That's certainly not a power amp input, which is what was asked about.

The only difference between the input jack and the effects return is the first gain stage of the preamp. You still have all the eq, filters, and final gain stage BEFORE the power section but AFTER the efx return.

It could be made to work but why? Most people want to use a direct input to a power section because they already have all the voicing they want in the external preamp, so the do NOT want additional coloration before final amplification that another preamp with EQ would add.

Guys, I was one of those "doubting Thomases" who believed that MarkBass was goofy...(You know, being an Ampeg guy, an amp ain't an amp till, it hits the 100 lbs mark!)

Anyway, I had finally come to the conclusion that I HAD to have something smaller for practice/small gig situations and headed over to my friendly neighborhood GC to buy either the Ampeg 1X15 combo or the 2X10 combo.......

Left with the 1X12 Markbass combo (500 watts). I guess it's basically the little mark head in a 1X12 cab??

Anyway, I'm a believer!!! I have been playing this thing nearly constantly ever since I grabbed it and the guys in the band are still shaking their heads....

So....to the world.....I am converted!!!

After changing my strings I was a little put off. Too much treble. However, once I spent some time with my LMII I found settings that work well. I have both filters at 9, the treble off and the high mids at 9. After a few months my new strings should lose their zing (labella 760FLs btw) and I can go back to my regular settings. This amp is so versatile its amazing. My tonal preference is a P bass with flats sound.

Oh, I'm also thinking of getting one of these...

Markbass makes bags both large and small to fit their heads. Apparently they are vented so you dont have to take the amp out of the bag.

Anybody have one of these? Do the vents line-up properly with the amp vents? Does the amp move around inside or is it a nice, tight and secure fit?

I've got one for my SD800 and I LOVE IT!!! The vents line up, you just unzip and play! (whoa, that sounded nasty) It fits nicely, there's even velcro on the inside of the flap, enabling you to stick the amp to a fuzzy cab....to tilt-back without it sliding off. You should also check out the 'Bass Holder'. Saves you the weight of bringing a bass stand.

I've just gotta stay out of my local GC. Every time I try some different piece of MB gear I think to myself, "Wow! Isn't this neat?"

Fooled around with the F1 head today plugged into a 104HR and the 151HF (might be wrong about this but it's the big 1/15). I thought the F1 was supposed to real hi-fi but I was surprised. A Fender '62RI P sounded terrific with the tone controls set at Noon. VLE just cracked and the VPF (or whatever) off.

If I'm not careful I'm gonna wind up being a big MB fan and I'm gonna hate JimmyM saying, "I told you so". If he ever gets back, that is.

I got the club bass bag which I really like the advantage of the Markbass bag is that the front and back open so its sort of like a rack the clubbass bag the amp sits inside and you pull it out but it is a perfect fit...And its hardly a big deal to pull a 6lb amp out of a bag in fact I kind of think its easier than dealing with the Markbass bag (I know someone who has one of these too).

Also its much cheaper the Markbass bag I believe is in the $100cdn range while the clubbass bag is much less.

I have an LMII and Markbass bag. The bag is definitely worth investing in. As previously stated you leave the amp in the bag when in use. The LMII fits snugly inside and has plenty of ventilation from the side vents. The rear opening has a retainer strap to stop the amp falling out if you pick the bag up without closing the rear zips - nice touch, plus the velcro pads to stop it moving on top of carpeted cabs. The little pocket on the top of the bag is ideal for storing the power cord, tuner and patch cables etc. :cool:

I have an aging SWR Workingman's 15, which has been serving me well. At a recent gig I used a friend's rig, which was a Hartke 3500 and an Ampeg 2x10 porta cabinet. Needless to say I was bowled over by the improvement, and I was thinking about finding the same equipment and buying. But in my reseach, I found Ampeg isn't making those cabs any more, and I also found out about Markbass.

Would the 102 Markbass combo approach the volume, clarity and deepness I experienced? They also have a single 12" combo I had heard was quite good. I guess the next step is finding out if my local GC carries the line.

Regarding portability of the Markbass head, I have a backpack with a laptop computer compartment. It has an adjustable "floating" pocket inside with nylon encased foam on all sides. The LMII fits in there very nicely. Several other compartments and pockets that are more than large enough to store all my cables, tuner, strap, and notebook for charts. Cost $25 at Wal-Mart. Of course, no logo on the outside....;)

Oh yeah, can't help myself. My newest addition to the family, another Aggie GS112:

$100?

That is very expensive.

Sure would be handy though... unzip, plug in and play.

For those that aren't on a tight budget, I really dig the custom Mooradian bags (the original 'Walter Woods' bag). I have one each for my F1 and LMII, so they have the measurements on file. Exact, custom fit, lightweight, uber quality, great strap, large external pocket for cords, etc.

About $100.. not cheap, but for a small company making a custom fit bag.. they are wonderful!!!
