great to hear. I am very satisfied with my SVP-CL and markbass head using them together...

When you put the bumblebee multiplier in the Markbass dollar per watt equation, it changes everything

Edit: Plus, I give an amp a 100 watt penalty for every stinkin' chiclet switch on the front panel!

I also ise an Ampeg SVP-CL and a Markbass LMK II. Just not together.

That'd be a line 6 spider II guitar amp, I do not recommend buying one, awful things.

And on topic.

I'm trying to decide between a GK 700/1000Rb and a LMII, My main band is for all intents and purposes a metal and, but I also play a huge variety of other styles, so what i'm looking for is versatility, and the option of getting a bit grittier if need be, can the LMII pull this off?

The LM II is gritty if you play gritty, but it won't add its own grit but merely reflect how and what you're playing. The GK adds its own grit, but it's a grit that I call "in a pinch" grit. Sounds great if it's all you have, but a Rat pedal or a Tube Screamer can do just as well, and an all-tube amp cranked as loud as it can go is the ultimate.

I'm really interested in trying the Markbass SA450 which I believe is their tube preamp hybrid (I'm bad at model #'s, especially Markbass').

Thanks for that, the weight (and cost!) of all tube amp is not something i've ever been a fan of, personally, for what I find is minimal tonal gain IMO.

I think I need go try one out, it'll be worth making the trip if it's what I need.

No problem. I think the LM II is a fantastic head, especially for the money. But there are things it can't do. On the other hand, what it does it does better than anything on the market IMHO.

I totally disagree about tube amps, but that's another argument for one of the hundred "tube vs. SS" threads here ;)

Didn't mean to generalize tube amps, a good amp is a good amp at the end of the day. But I can't justify the cost and weight of one!

Not the SA450.....go to Invalid Link Removed to check out their tube amp. R500 maybe?

the 500 has a tube pre...the 300 is all tube and self biasing...very cool feature.

the hybrids by MarkBass are the TA503, TA501 and R500.

basically the first letter denotes preamp type and the second letter is the power section type.

so SD800 means Solid State pre with Digital power amp.
TA501 - Tube pre and Analog power.
SA450 - SS pre with Analog power amp.

Oooooooooh, okay, that makes more sense. Seriously, I had no idea what "SA" stood for in "SA450" despite owning one. Now where does "450" come from? It's rated 300 watts @ 8 ohms or 500 watts @ 4 ohms.

Im selling a couple of my Moogerfoogers, so my MF Gigbag didn't have anything in it. Well, it just happens to be a PERFECT fit for my LMII. Two audio cables, the speakon cable, and the power cable all fit in the front of the bag, and the fit for the amp itself could not be more perfect. I can't tell you how happy this makes me. :hyper::bassist::hyper::bassist:
