Markbass Preamp Clipping

The fact that it is fine with the passive basses proves the amp is okay. For some reason the stingray output is way hotter. The ray is the issue IMO.

I can get a clean sound with passive basses but the gain still needs to be pretty low. With my P Bass for example, I can still get it to clip with the gain set lower than 9 o'clock with a good pluck. It's workable though. With the Stingray, having the gain turn down to "1" it clips with the hardest plucking. An input pad would have been a nice feature...

I don't think any of Markbass' heads have a padded input. I have never had an issue with my SD800 clipping with my Ray and I run my gain over 50%. I have no experience with the head in question though.

To me a padded input or input with a pad switch is redundant on an amp that has a potentiometer to feed the front end. That knob is the 'pad' and it has more variability than a switch or a -whatever input.

Have a LMII and a LMIII. My old '78 Jazz Bass doesn't overload the preamp if I set the gain to the max. No problems with a Stingray classic, even if I set the volume and the bass and treble eq to the max on the Stingray. Even then, it doesn't clip with a setting of 11 or 12 on the Markbass.

Ok, I know I'm posting on an old thread, but I've recently bought a brand new Little Mark Tube 800. Even using my Gibson EB05 passive bass, my signal is clipping as soon as my gain reaches about 1.5

For outboard gear, I'm running an Alesis 3630, but it's inserted into the effects loop, so it shouldn't affect my input gain. I'm also using a Korg Pitchblack Pro tuner, but using it strictly through my "Tuner Out" from the back of the head, as that model has a line boost on the output.

Seems that whether I use my passive basses, or my active Ibanez 6-string, I have this problem. Has anyone heard of anything like this?
