Double Bass Markbass vs. Aguilar for upright

That’s a great choice, and it will give you all the tonal spectrum and nuance of your Double Bass. Just one note here. The output from the EDB-2 is very hot. So
You may need to insert the Headway into the effects loop, rather than running it into the channel input.

Headway EDB-2 H.E. preamp came in, Conclusions: 1) impedance does matter 2) the Realist Copperplate is OK if properly pre-amped, gain at 12 o'clock. 3) very natural sound with a flat EQ, there as well as on the Markbass (which is a compliment to the Copperplate as well, no 'corrections' needed) 4) well-dosed harmonic enhancement (the H.E. in the device's name) does help 5) the notch filter helps to damp overly present clicks, thumps, rumbles etc.

I'm totally satisfied.

Neither MarkBass nor Aguilar work for me on upright. My ultimate rig is an Acoustic Image Clarus 600w head into one or two Barefaced One10 cabs. The AI is voiced specifically for upright and has an adjustable HPF as well as a choice of 1meg and 10meg inputs. No need for external preamping.

I would say that Acoustic Image systems, are designed for the likes of Double Bassists and Jazz Guitarists. So their amplifiers are quite good a great “plug and play” sound, with a small amount of adjustments on Double Bass. There are other solutions that also sound fantastic. Euphonic Audio’s heads and cabinet’s sound great with DB as do the Headway EDB-2 H.E. or Grace Design’s Felix into, the front end or effects loop of many amplifiers. Just my take of course.

With the right Preamp, the Realist Copper Foil will sound just fine, I used mine with a Walter Woods MI-400-8 for nearly 10 years.

Are you talking about the Copperhead? And with the right preamp, won't just about any pickup sound fine?

Except some new models, most of the Markbass amp not fit double bass well (without buffer preamp...) , because of the low input impedance! (500Kohms)
Aguilars are fine, but the AG500 or new AG700 are better for DB. I’m a long time Aguilar user...Had various Aggie gears, the SL112 is maybe the best Speaker what I ever played...

What is the input impedance on the AG700? Mine sounds great to my ear but there is no info in the documentation that I can find on this.
