Marshal guv'nor. What are your thoughts?

Here's another question. Again, I plead ignorance. Please look at the pic I posted of my pedal board. Having the BDDI in the chain where it sits, which is pretty much right in the middle of the chain, is it going to/not going to effect the pedals before it? How does the BDDI pedal placement effect all the rest of my pedals on the board. If it does.

It will affect any pedal in the chain that's in front of it. I have my RBI/RPM preamps as the last thing in my signal chain before my amp when I use them.

Decide if you want your non dirt pedals to effect your dirt pedals or be effected by them and place them accordingly.

Marshall guvnor pedal, especially if using two with one stacked into the other is excellent. Was one of my two faves when used seperates. Unfortunately theyre no longer made. But you might get lucky and find used ones. Like with most oitehr excellent overdrives a bass eq pedal after it is reccomended. Never heard a overdrive pedal that didnt cut bass which sounded anywhere near as good as marshall guvner and proco rat with bass eq pedal after. lol.

This is my Kallas Guv'nor. The blend control is a huge asset to this pedal.

I haven't tried the Basstortion yet. I like the Mastotron for many readons. Mainly it's versitility. The switch on it to give it more bass really fattens it up. I leave it on 2 because 3 is too low and fat. The wave shape control allows you to shift the shape of the wave, taking it from a regular, thick fuzz, to a splatty gated fuzz. It is always distinct and punchy, and it has taken the place of every other fuzz I have tried on my board.

I might have to go test drive that Basstortion, although, I am pretty happy with the RAT.

bezo, I was really happy with the Rat at first. Loved its sound and tone. But when I jammed with it I couldnt crank up the volume or the levels would go totally wacky. I didnt really spend a lot of time with it though. I toook it back. I would try it again but I would get the turbo version instead. I think I will forever be looking for a good distortion pedal. Theere are so many possiblities its endless. I so just want to find one that I can work with though. I've had problems finding that at least.

Did you have an old one with the LM308N chip in it? That is where the magic is. I have one that is original from the 80s and one that I gig with that is beat to poo with a Keeley mod to it. The Texas instruments LM308N chip is what makes those things great. If you still have it, pop off the battery cover and look down on the board. You should be able to read the little chip on there. If it doesn't have the LM308N chip, I'd send it off to someone like Robert Keeley. Or, if you're handy with some soldering, get a Texas Instruments LM308N online somewhere and pop it in. Newer pedals sound like poo because they don't have that chip.

Running overdrives at 18v cranks up the juice. You usually get more headroom, and more sizzle at the top of the gain knob. You usually get thicker and juicier gain when you run them at a higher voltage. Be careful though! Not all overdrives are created equally! If your pedal can't handle the current, you will fry it. Personally, I wouldn't think too highly of newer Marshall pedals, as they aren't too reliable to begin with. The OCD, however, can handle the extra voltage.

The same is true with fuzzes, only you have to starve them of juice. If you run certain fuzz pedals at 7v or less, they get really splatty and give you weird harmonics. The "dead battery trick" is a must to fuzz lovers, and now power supplies are coming with voltage sag features for this reason.

I bought the Rat at guitar center last week so I'm pretty sure it was a newer one.

Ok, so am I correct in saying that if I place my sans amp BDDI very last in my chain of pedals on my board, them it will be effecting ALL my pedals?? In the picture I took, as it stands its only effecting my guv'nor and the 2 mxr pedals. Leaving the top 4 untouched by the BDDI??? Is that right??

if your BDDI is the first thing you plug into, obviously it's effecting everything that follows it.
if it's at the end of your chain, then it's taking in everything in front of it and effecting it.
if you place it last in the chain, you could consider it your "bass amp" and adjust it accordingly, or you could consider it just another pedal.

I'm still seriously confused. I am going to have to find some threads on here and do some more research. I've also Googled "effect pedal placement" and it looks like there will be a lot of useful info searched as well there. It's crazy all the possibilities you can get the more stuff you add to your rig, sometimes I think I'd be better off with only two pedals. Or none!! haha I have an ATK 300 series Ibanez and a GK 1001 RB head into a GK Neo 410 and an SBX plus 410 so sometimes I battle with myself on rather or not I like the GK tone or the BDDI tonal addition. It is a never ending saga with tone. Probably always will be. My girlfriend thinks I am obsessed and quite crazy at times haha
