Marshal guv'nor. What are your thoughts?

Hey all, I've been trying to find a great fuzz/distortion, I know they're two different beasts but none the less, and it's been eluding me. I just returned a Rat. I was thinking about returning my mxr bass fuzz deluxe as well but I'm thinking if giving it another try. I have a sans amp bass driver as well but it doesn't offer the distortion/fuzz I want either. I've recently started using a pedal I got a while ago that's been out up in the closet, the marshal guv'nor 2. I started to find some sweet spots on that pedal all the sudden. I'm wanting a warm tubey sounding fuzz. Any of you have a lot of exp with the guv? I only ask because I couldn't find any decent threads about here.

I never liked it. It only really sounds great with a guitar into a Marshall. I personally offed mine long ago. I went with the Fulltone OCD. I dial that in with the gain dimed, tone back to maybe 10 o'clock, and volume at unity and it does the trick. I also have it running at 18v through my pedalboard power supply, and it makes it nice and juicy. I go between that and the RAT.

For a fuzz, I suggest the Zvex Mastotron. I love it.

Hey bezo, the zvex mastotron, I've really been wondering about that one. Also the other one they just came out with, the basstortion. Anything on that one?? And why do you like the mastotron so much? Please elaborate on that.

The Guv'nor and Guv'nor II are quite different. I swear by my original Guv'nor for adding a cool growly emphasis to my mids.

I like P basses best, but any band I play a jazz bass in that I can use a dirty tone I use the Guv'nor.

I recently did a short review in the review section of a Guv'nor clone John Kallas built for me with a few added features that I'm in love with.

Bezo420 mentioned the OCD. Very different than the Guv'nor but it with a couple other pedals is what I've used with my P basses for the past few years. Both pedals are really cool and sound good, but what bass/other effects/amp you use will decide too which pedal is best for you.

This.

I don't use my Guv'nor as a typical "click it when you need it" distortion. I use it as an always on tone augmenter, the same as Tim Commerford (though my goal isn't to emulate his sound).

I've heard of people getting really good results from tweaked Guv'nor II's, but other then messing with one in a store I have no extensive experience with one.
