Martial Arts

I think that any Martial Art taught with sincerity and learned with dedication can be of benefit for the student. Unfortunately there are many schools - in my area, mostly TKD, that cater to kids. They teach little and lock parents into 1 year contracts. They promote kids who do not neccessarily deserve it - as to keep the cash flow coming in.

My kids and I study Uechi-Ryu with a very gifted Sensei who happens to hold advanced rank in 5 different Martial Arts. Although we are prtty focused on Uechi, there is the possibility to branch out into other areas or bring some outside elements inot our training. My son has, in addition to his Uechi training is also training in Kendo and some of the tradional Bushido forms.

Just cause you're a fatass doesn't mean I'm skinny ;)

I've taken on guys more than twice my weight...leg kicks into submission from the guard...formula works every time :ninja: hehe

Quite a strategy but my dir Watson what you didn’t think of is once you do kick my legs and bring me to submission I fall down, quite easily too like all fat people do, however unlike others I fall down on you my dir friend, and you become road kill.

Game over!

You'll have to excuse kserg. He thinks he's a cartoon. In some ways though, he really is.

Hey, does anyone here have any experience with Kali? I am very interested in the pro/cons to that MA. Also, I was wondering if anyone knows of any good schools for belt-fighting/ flexible weapons of any sort? I've been interested in that as a legal, practical weapon, but I seem to fall short of real information when I look on the internet, and just get "real ultimate power" kind of stuff. Thanks!

I don't have much experience with Kali.

It's weird, though. They teach you to basically duel your opponent with either the knife or stick, but if a guy has a knife, why would he show it to you? He'd just shank you and run.

But, they also suit up later and do some sparring. Think Kendo but with a shorter stick or knife. Kinda cool.

If you want to know a bit about weapons, then you might as well take it. Remember, the guy who goes to the hospital after a knife fight is the winner. The loser is in the morgue.

However, if there is a Dog Brothers school around you, go there. You can't lose.

EDIT: No, you don't have to go all out like that. Nobody's going to force you to spar. But you can bet that you'll be taught good techniques, because these people test them all the time.

I spent some time with Parker Kenpo and Aikido; I really liked both. I've tried a couple of other systems, but for me Boxing and Muay Thai are my favorite striking arts. Once I get into better shape I want to give Jiu Jitsu a try.

In fact it was a little bit frightning, but they did it with expert timing

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting, those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning, make sure you have expert timing

Kung Fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning...
