Martin Turner/Wishbone Ash. Anyone???

I saw Wishbone Ash live at the Milwaukee Arena, (or was it at the Auditorium??) back in 1974. Loved it and miss those days (the music). Haven't seen the two current incarnations live, but judging both against the 70's version on web tube Martins band is closer to the original sound than the guitarists band. He has the vibe.
+1 to this. Martin Turner's WA are fantastic, and far closer in sound the the WA we all love. I haven't much time for the 'official' lineup. Hearing all those classic lines played fingerstyle on a burpy Stingray just ain't right.
Martin's old Thunderbird tone - neck pickup only, running through two amps - is just untouchable.
Wow... memories! I played with a couple of guitarists in the late 70's who were into WA. What an education for a bass player! I still noodle on a much mutated version of Handy as a warmup.
I saw Wishbone Ash In January 1975 in New Orleans with Laurie Wiesfeld in place of Ted Turner. They were amazing! I love Argus and There's the Rub! I was surprised when I read that Martin used a P bass on There's the Rub. Great band full of great musicians.

We think alike. Turner and Dunaway were hugely influential for me, along with Glenn Cornick and Mark Andes. Those were the guys who really bent my ear back then.

I can think of no other bass player who gelled so well with the guitarists. His lines were like guitar harmonies.

Martin Turner is one of my favourite bass players too. It was his use of a Rickenbacker on Pilgrimage and Angus that made me interested in that bass. Later Chris Squire too. I know Martin personally and he told me he played a Ric on Argus...I'd always thought it was a Thunderbird, which has become identified with him. On the first album he was playing a Fender Jazz bass. On Pigrimage you can clearly hear the Ric on some tracks eg. Vas Dis

Aloha.. OMG what a memory LMAO !! I worked security with my brothers in the MC The HADEANS for that concert !!!! It ended up being a total INSANE ending !! Do you remember how that day ended ??? Wishbone stole anothers bands equiptment my MC took them out with baseball bats. They escaped the grounds in a VW mini bus !!! And in the end Wishbones truck & equiptment ended up in the water in the quarry !!! LMAO.... I still have a pic of me in my security shirt relaxing in our clubhouse after the concert !!!!! I would LOVE it if i could find some pics of that day do you know of any around ???
Aloha... oops senior moment here.. it was Black Oak Arkansas that were ripping off the bands and we ran off LMAO !!!
UPDATE !! SEnior Moment LMAO !! It was Black Oak Arkansas at Hard Rock Quarry NOT Wishbone Ash we had the above incident with !!!! Sorry WA !!!!
