Master Effects Owners Society

Can I see them?
This gives me the starting to breakup sound.I'm sure it can be refined but afaik master over noon and boost at three o'clock, boost needs to be high.I have the boost switch up along with mid contour.
I'm running mine pretty close at times, this is where I've been running it lately.

Hey y'all - lurked around the Master Effects thread for a while. A VT Bass Deluxe is currently doing me for my pedalboard to FOH tone needs (I get my tone from pedal board and if I use a rig onstage it's most flat/uncoloured). But the VT Bass kinda does the Ampeg emulation and tone. It does do Trace Elliott, SWR, Gallien Kreuger etc so I have been looking around for another preamp to stack to get me that bright, modern tone that these amps do - especially the GK tone.

How close does the 800 preamp get to this tone, which I swear is Jason using a GK amp hitting rails (Jason Newsted's gear is well documented and I know at this stage he was using GK amps). The clip isn't a AJFA joke either - the bass starts at 1.02. Is fairly subdued to start with but gets nasty the way that only GK amps do!!!
Metallica - One (Bass Only) - YouTube

The tones at 0.53 nearly have me sold
#MasterEffects -#SuperEightHundred #super800 #GallienKrueger #800RB in a box - YouTube

Push me over the edge guys. Even better if you could suggest how the Super 800 could stack into a VT Bass Deluxe or vice versa :-)

I use both the Super300 and 800 in a cover band and switch between them. The 300 to me blows away the VT bass that I was using before. I run them fairly clean and use a pork and pickle for dirt when needed and feel that gives plenty of versatility. Haven't had much luck stacking due to volume spikes when doing so. Using them seperate and running dirt allows me to use them both fairly clean, and add dirt to each without the volume issue. But yes, I love the pedal for what it is, but prefer to have the option of running it clean, and adding dirt via another pedal. Not sure if that pushes you over the edge, but they have become my go to's for always on preamps.

I prefer the 300 at lower gain myself. Keeps the sparkle that I like. I'm still getting the hang of stacking into it, but I haven't experimented much because the low gain tone is so sweet.

Very interested in the Super 800 Plus to have that classic GK growl. Would go for the Plus version as it would be my main preamp and I quite often play straight in the PA at gigs (currently using a SansAmp BDDI V2).

Does the Super 800 Plus need an IR/cab sim before going to the PA? Or does it sound great on its own?

I wouldn't say it "needs" it, but I'm running it through the Shift Line Olympic MKlll set as flat as it can, and use the Sun 215 IR, and it is pretty nice. I'm running straight with no amp on stage.

Thanks. How does it sound without the IR though?
I've just got used to the sound of a cab sim. I prefer the ME300 And 800 through a real cab, but can't use one with my current band. Straight DI is too harsh to my ears now, some may prefer it. I think it would work fine, I just like what I like in my ears. I sometimes wonder if no cab sim would be preferable to a sound guy, or if it would sound better out front without it.
