Anyone else here with a Super 400? Kinda surprised I haven’t heard much other talk of it here! I’m still really loving it. Adds the same kinda presence and cut that I loved my 400+ for (so far only using it for recording experiments with my friends).

I almost worked out a trade for a Super 400 but unfortunately it fell through. I'd love some ME siblings for my Super 300 (200 and 400 in particular), but I made it through my Gearaholics Anonymous program and realized that a dozen different dirt pedals is enough. We'll see what I wind up with if/when I fall off the wagon.

I have a 300 too, though I never use it it is the only Ampeg voice I have so I keep it around even as I rarely feel inclined to use that kind of tone. Makes sense as I immediately sold my SVTs back in the day after first getting to hear my 400+ in a mix!

SVT+8x10 run loud was my tone heaven. I really wanted to love the Mesa 400 with its amazingly versatile EQ, but I only ever heard it in music stores and never brought myself to pull the trigger... probably because I went from SVT to rack rigs. Definitely my loss, I'm sure I would have also loved the 400+ at the gig.

It is not anywhere near as intuitive to dial in as an SVT, but for a clear and biting tube tone the 400/+ were/are monster heads! The EQ shift controls let you dial in both punch and growl beyond the capacity of a typical Fender passive EQ. I didn’t know what I was missing til I picked one up on a whim, then I never gigged my SVT again (though they are inherently very different sounding/feeling so preference will all be subjective)

I played with it for a couple of hours and all I can say is, if this really sounds like a GK 800RB, I am totally bummed...

That I missed out on owning a real GK 800RB....:D:laugh::roflmao:

I'm not gonna say that this Super 800 is better than my bazillion dollar Noble or my gazillion dollar Quad Cortex, but I remember thinking to myself "THAT'S THE SOUND!" several times during play time last night. I've got gigs Thursday and Saturday night this week, and Thursday is with an actual bass rig that includes a GK 410 cab, so I'm pretty stoked for the rest of the week! This Super 800 sounds great and it was pretty easy to dial up some KILLA sounds with all of my basses!

Yeah, I could try to hunt down a real, 80's 800RB, but we just went to a "no amps" setup. The only times I get to use a bass rig now are Thursday nights, where the guys I jam with host an open stage, or whenever my main band practices, and I already have a 700RB at my drummers house. I actually have zero use for an amp now.

Good times.

So, I was having a good ol' time messing around with my Super 800 and I was, like, 2 steps away from recording, so I went ahead and did it.

There's a good reason why I should be the permanent spokesmodel for the "Crappy Bassists With Expensive Gear" Club, but no one there will listen to me. Anyways, I wanted to get something that was "GK" sounding, but not full on "Rails". I was looking for a clean, fat GK sound. I feel like I found it.

This is Spector NS-4(Fishman Fluence)->Line 6 HX Stomp(light compression/slight mid-boosted EQ)->Master Effects Super 800(Bass-1:00/Lo-Mid-12:00/Hi-Mid-11:00/Treble-1:00)->Sushi Box Effects Finally Tube DI->Zoom H6(Audio)->Canon 80D(Video)

I know I'm the FNG here, but I'd love it if you guys would record some of your gear! I'm in love with this Super 800, but I'd love to hear the other Supers and, especially, the SF72!

I hear no crap there. Great playing, beautiful bass, and great tone.

Can't wait to hear a gig report! My 800 has been a godsend for me, but just when there's an FX loop in the amp du jour. I have yet to use it successfully directly into an amp's input jack.

It'll be interesting because on Thursday nights, I get to play thru a cab(it's some kind of GK 410). My sound guy brings his studio's bass rig, but I'll just play thru this board into a Straight Ahead Mini Power Amp that I carry with me, into that cab so I don't hafta worry about the amp part.

Saturday night is straight to FOH and my IEMs. I have a DSM OmniCab mini, but I've really never felt the need to use it, since I don't use a whole lot of dirt, and I like the bass sound without the high end roll off. I'm going to try to really listen to see if a cab sim might actually help, but I loved the sound of the Super 800 coming thru my headphones, so...

I like the sound of all that. I really like the idea of using my S800 into a portable power amp, but often what I find is some crappy combo amp with no FX loop and no way to plug directly into the speaker. Most recent was a little Ampeg Rocket Bass combo. I just had to suck it up and use it as-is. My S800 looked sad.

I, almost, always have a speakon-to-1/4" speaker cable buried somewhere in my gig bag. That has saved my @ss quite a few times, LOL!

Ok, so this is what I was working with last night...

thumbnail-359.jpeg

As expected, the S800 sounded pretty massive thru the P.A. Everything was very well defined and every note seemed a bit more lively. With the Spectors, the sound was appropriately growly, which is what I was hoping for! My only complaint was there was a wee bit of harshness that would pop up occasionally. I'm thinking that it may be a situation where it was either my wireless, or I now need to use some kind of cab sim to tame that last bit of harshness that I couldn't seem to resolve. I've got a mini OmniCabSim on a shelf here, so my next question is do I just add it at the end of the chain, or do I take off the Finally, since I don't feel the need for an extra gain stage. I got the S800 instead of the S800+ because I already had the Finally with an XLR out, but the OCS has an XLR out so I'm gonna need to experiment...

Overall, the S800 is a winner! It gave me everything I wanted and took 5 minutes to setup. The crowd seemed to dig what we were throwing at them...

I had about 30 seconds to snap that pic before we started whatever song we were getting ready to play.:thumbsup::bassist::hyper::bassist::hyper:

Just got my Super 800 + loving it so far. I've only ever owned a 700rb, never played the real 800rb but as soon as I plugged in it felt instantly at home.

What settings are people using? Especially around the boost settings, it seemed like a good idea to have boost on a footswitch bit in reality it's only really usable at super low settings because the jump in volume is so extreme! Sounds great when it's dialled in though.

Mr Dinsdale actually bought it off me :)

When I used it with my band, I would leave the Boost on. I wouldn’t use the boost on some occasions only, instead I would dial it in and tweak the volume and gain accordingly. I had a very nice punchy sound with boost at 12, gain at 1/2, and volume at 11. I didn’t use any of the mini-switches, and my EQ was pretty much flat, with maybe a slight bass boost.

Hi folks! I haven't been active here much in the past few years, but found this thread.

I've currently got a Golden Ratio and a Transmission from MasterEffects. The Transmission wasn't behaving like I thought it should, so Tim had me send it back for a free repair - turned out it had a bad transistor. Now it's operating perfectly! Great customer service.

I have a few more things to do on my pedal board then I'll post a pic.

I'm also interested in the Super 100 like many of you. Though I just got a Genzler 4OTF. And if Shift-Line ever makes more CabZones, I'll most likely pick up one of those.

Haha ace Yeah that sounds pretty much the same as I've had it I think although I've been tinkering quite a bit. Gotta say as much as I love the GK Fusion S head, this is the real GK sound I love.
