Master Series/Parallel Rotary Switch

I'm wondering if there is anyone here who can help me with figuring this out. My current setup is Neck and Bridge humbuckers go into a balance/blend which goes into active EQ which then goes into Master volume with bridge grounded to the pot then output jack.

I know the series/parallel switch goes in between the pickups and the balance/blend but the furthest I got is some random internet posts saying I should use a 4pdt switch. And I want this on a 2 position rotary if possible.

Correct. You can’t. Series basically turns both pickups into a single pickup. A blend is pointless in series mode. As is a separate volume and/or tone control for the second pickup when you’re in series.

I personally can’t see the point of doing series/parallel switching if you’re using an active preamp. Switching schemes are a hack to get some additional tones out of passive wiring. If you have a preamp that all becomes unnecessary because the preamp now does all the heavy lifting. And it does it better.

If you want to get the fullest range of tones possible from your pickups use a preamp with a sweepable midrange control. Midrange frequencies are where the bulk of the musical interest lies with bass. So separate high and low midrange knobs, or a mid boost/cut with sweepable frequency, is the way to go.

You can do a blend pot with an S/P switch, but when the pickups are in series, it just doesn't blend (it's bypassed).

I find this to be a very functional addition to any bass with 2 pickups because the difference in output and sound is not only noticed, but very functional. I've added it to a number of my builds and personal basses and being able to pan, as well as use series if desired, comes in handy all the time.

If you're looking to do this to a bass, here's the wiring diagram that was posted a while back by line6man. I use it frequently and it works well. You can adapt it to many different applications as well, the core is essentially the switch and pan:

Just a note: the pan pot is an M/N taper, ungrounded pot. Not sure how it would function with other pan pots, but these are readily available and inexpensive.

This awesome dude, I appreciate the diagram. I am going to have to fiddle with my bass this afternoon.
