Master Vol / Secondary Vol / Master Tone

hi everybody.

I'm in need of help from you wiring-wizards.

I'm damn tired of the dual vol + tone on my passive PJ and I would really like to have it wired differently.

Since I use the P always ON and I add the J to taste could I wire them with a master volume for the P, a secondary Vol for the J and a master Tone in a way I could always control the over all output with just the master volume?

simply wire the p, master vol, and tone as a regular p bass. then use a 100k-250k linear pot as an in-line resistance for the j, wired also to the clockwise lug of the vol.

this is electrically the same as an unearthed m/n blend pot working on the p side only.

100k will give you a finer adjustment of the blend, 200/220/250k will give you more of a true p tone when the j vol its at minimum.

the ultimate would be a reverse-audio (c taper) 100k pot with its track cut just before the anti-clockwise lug. this will give you a very fine adjustment of the blend and true p bass tone when at minimum.

I was in similar situation, and I considered several different options - master/secondary vol, blend pot, even a rotary switch including series/parallel wiring, but in the end I decided that traditional VVT is just fine  What exactly are the issues with your current wiring?
