matching headstock or not?

I recently bought a MIM fender classic jazz for about 50 euro. Neck was completely ruined so i bought a replacement neck, a nice yellowy maple neck with maple fretboard.

Now having some doubts concerning the headstock. It's not the most beautifull wood you've seen so I've been thinking about getting it painted black, just as the body.

At the moment it's got a tort pickguard (which is gonna be replaced by a plain black one). I'm also still looking for some chrome knobs to match the control plates.

So gimme your opinions!

I love matching headstocks so long as the board is a dark color. Rosewood or Ebony would be fine. Matching headstock with a maple board doesn't look good at all IMO. Leave it alone.

My last two builds have matching headstock finishes and white pearloid pickguards.

this is the headstock in question. The grain (if this is the right word I'm not really shure) is too dark to my liking.

I was going to vote for painting it until I saw the pic. That is a nice looking piece of wood leave it natural.

Leave it maple, it will be fine. Painted headstocks with maple fingerboards look like an ungly girl with a pretty face????............something is just missing and not right.

there should be a 'depends' option. Some guitars/basses it looks right, like stealth ones, and one with a cool colour, some it looks out of place, like an old skool style bass. IMO.

I say keep it, and don't paint it, if it was a rosewood board I would think twice, but its maple, it will give you that classic fender look, most of the fenders that I have seen with the matching headstocks look very new age and super modern, I say if you are going to go with a classic instrument go with the classic look!

You didn't say what color you would be painting it? (Or did I miss it somewhere?)
