max volume

After I got my 8x10 I cranked my V4B once to see and once so my brother could hear. Lots of distortion but it t was definitely loud.

Absolutely. With my former outfit I would routinely max out the volume knob on my V4B in to my 810 stack. Fuzz blasting as well. A truly glorious sound. only used for maxed out distruction/dissonance type stuff though. Not during a typical song

It seems as "4" is pretty much the max most will use

With a V4-B into SVT-15E, I can't go past 10 o'clock without shaking a venue off its foundation. The V4-B doesn't have a master volume, meaning that's dimed (for that amp design anyway). A regular V4 does have a master volume, which you can roll back to get preamp distortion when you bring that up.

Depends a lot on the effective taper of the master volume pot. The amps I build don't usually max out until at least 7-8/10, and I run them all above 5/10 pretty much all the time on gigs, even quiet jazz stuff with no drums. My gain control is usually between 8 and 10 too, unless I'm running a very hot bass with a lot of EQ boost.

i turn my amp almost full up and use a pretty light touch. sounds like a very huge mammoth tone rolling down a hill. it takes a while to get the right touch on the strings, but well worth it!

I've never tried. at gigs I don't even have to turn my amp past 9 I o'clock, and that's not even with volume on my bass cranked.

But seriously, you don't build DIY stuff like that to save money, it costs a fortune to do one-offs.

The best way to get the cleanest tone from a TH500 or a TH350 is Master dimed and Gain really low.
This isn't max volume though.

The loudest I've ever had to have my Walkabout is at an outdoor gig, had the Master up a bit past the half way mark.

My SS amps always around 4 or 5 my tube amp is aleays about 5 or 9

I try to baby my gear. It's pretty rare that i push it to it's limits (or anywhere close for that matter).
