Maxon AF-9?

I'm looking for opinions on the Maxon AF-9 today is the first i've heard of em, heard a very cool clip of one. i'm just wondering if people think they are worth the 190$usd that i'll have to spend on one

Does this pedal affect your tone much when it's off? an explanation of the pedals strong and weak points would be great too.

I've honestly never played one.
However, when it came time for me to buy an envelope filter, it came down to the Maxon, Emma, and EBS.
They are all priced similarly and all have they're fans.

Just last week, I recieved the Emma. Why did I choose the Emma? Coin toss. So far I really like it.

The only complaint I hear about the Maxon is a volume jump.
Some folks say it's not a big deal, some.... can't deal with it.

well i went ahead and bought the maxon af 9. unfortunately i can't try it with my bass amp till i go to my friends on friday. i don't think i'm getting a very good idea of what it's gonna sound like with my litle practice guitar amp. but the g string sounds wicked, d is cool too. a and d string tho aren't as responsive to it, unless your playing above the 12th fret. but it defintely sounds cool and shall be much fun for me

I haven't had a problem with it either, I just play a bit lighter and turn up the sensitivity control. I have two AF-9s (a Maxon and an Ibanez UE-303B Multi-FX) and I love them. The UE-303B is great because it also has a compressor after the AF-9 so you can even out the volume of extreme filter sweeps and mess with the attack and sustain of the signal. There's also a flanger/stereo chorus built in, plus an FX loop and AC power. If you keep an eye out you can find one for under $200.

In the early 1970's they developed a line of compact guitar effect units and marketed them in Japan (these models are currently available as the Maxon Reissue Series). The Hoshino Trading Company (Ibanez) soon took notice and licensed the designs from Maxon for distribution around the globe under the Ibanez brand name.
From that time up until early 2002 Maxon was responsible for the design and manufacture of many Ibanez products, including the legendary TS808 and TS-9 Tubescreamers, the rare and collectible Flying Pan, and the popular SoundTank series.

If I get that correctly, the Ibanez AF9 made in 80s was in fact manufactured by Maxon and branded as Ibanez?
It would mean that it should be same parts and no quality loss if the unit says Ibanez instead of Maxon.

That is absolutely correct, assuming a Maxon pedal and an Ibanez pedal from the same time period. Some of the components used in current-production Maxon pedals are not identical to components used in the 80's.
