Maybe $10k for a Fodera ain't so bad?

For some professionals, it's a downpayment on their future. I've bought plenty of expensive musical equipment including basses and they have all earned me money and paid for themselves hundreds of times over, allowing me to have the house with a back yard and the car I own today. The only way to value any equipment is profitability. I also own cheap items that I use because they make me money.

For the people who play for pleasure, they should play what makes them happy.

If I come across a Fodera/Alembic/F-Bass/ETC... player - there's a very good chance that some "Bass-Talk" will ensue...

There's more to a bass than the parts or the price - there's more to a player than the bass they're holding.

Every luthier that I've ever dealt or spoken with has turned out to be one of the nicest, down to earth folk on the planet.

It's a little sad to read some of the comments around here & I honestly don't get it - but then again:

Where has everybody gone? Whose doused the flames. Come on? I'm getting cold. I guess I'll have to go back to reading about pick-up wiring. Unless.........The Cort Gene Simmons axe sounds as good as a Fodera Monarch..... no exceptions. That should refuel the flaming.

In the same way that nobody has said that they are a superior player with a Fodera over a Squier, I doubt many would say they get an $11k Rolex over a Seiko because "it tells time better". Tired, tired argument.

Point taken. In this thread there may not have been an equivalent discussion/argument to this, but you must admit that internet forums such as this do frequently contain comments which indicate a person isn't a 'serious" player unless they own a certain brand or spend a certain amount on their gear, or that no player worth his salt would deign to play XXX brand guitars or basses because XXX brand instruments are garbage, etc.

even the 10K+ basses can be found for significantly cheaper if you hunt around long enough. we all tend to make the assumption that it'll be too expense so why bother looking.

I found a Ritter the other day assuming it would be around the 9-10k mark and the shop came back with under 4k. It's easy to say I'll just go buy the Warwick or whatever at 3-4k but which would you prefer a Ritter or a Warwick
