Mbrace Performance stand review

Due to a temporary lower back issue, I found and purchased an Mbrace @ Chuck Levins here near D.C. Turns out the man who invented and holds the patent for this 'traption worked at Levins while developing it.

I had the store set it up with a fairly heavy Am Std Jazz on a tripod mic stand before I bought it. All www info I found and youtube shows the Mbrace holding light acoustics.

It is stable to stable plus holding my XB76. The photos show how it hangs from the standard strap positions. There are small rubber pads that hold the back of the bass off the plastic frame/plate and keep the body paint from contact. Once I get back to wearing the Bass, I can see still using this for recording having the Bass ready but not restricting me from moving from Keys to bass or PC (Unstrap, set on stand, pickup, re-strap, repeat.....oy)

Make sure you get a standard Mic stand with a threaded mount on 5/8" dia. tube, the Mbrace has the matching female thread insert installed. Check the pics.

How comfortable and useful is it? What's it like to play/perform with the mbrace?

I have ended up with a small wedge of foam behind the lowest contact point to tilt the board a bit. That keeps you from bending "over" the top due to the pole between your legs...so its good to use on stage for days now.

The Bass "hangs" from the strap points. In the bottom photo I provided above, I slide a wedge (you pick the material, matchbook, fabric, wad of Juicy fruit, whatever) between the back of the bass and the Mbrace black "plate" where the lower bout contacts the plate. That tilts the bass and board a bit skyward so I can see the fretboard better without leaning over the stand. If you're a fret-watcher like me, its about half the time I am playing.

Chuck’s has always been at the forefront when it comes to having new designs etc. in stock.
Paul Reed Smith worked there when he was just a geeky kid.

Between Chuck’s and Atomic, it’s a wonder I have any money at all.

I can see using that to have a fretless ready at any moment in a song ( or the reverse ). It seems to be a good product for people who have to play standing up too but suffer from back pain.

Well, to be quite frank, so far I *HATE* it. How do you play with this thing on? It seems like the bass is way too far from my body and my technique really suffers. Maybe what I need is something to change the angle of my bass while using the mbrace, like [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], perhaps?
