Boss released the GT-6B a couple of years ago, for those who wanted a bigger multifx than the ME50b. Then they discontinued it and released the GT-10B last winter. Reports are it's pretty good.

IMO, by todays standards, the ME-50B doesn't stand up to much. The delay is pretty good, but other than that, it mostly sounds horrid IMO...sucks all the life out of your tone.

Zoom's stuff is getting rave reviews at the mo. The B2.1u is really popular, and as for their big one (the B9.1UT), a couple of very trusted reviewers have thrown about phrases like "the best multifx I've ever used", so go figure.

Hi Could you explain the meaning of IMO Please. I agree totally, the ME-50B sounds lifeless when compared to the GT-6B, additional power is also a big factor. The Pre-Amp(s) in the GT-6B is a dream. How low can it go ? I'm talking about the price ! What's the lowest price you've seen the GT-6B since the 10B appeared on the market ?

I have the ME-50B; I bought it off eBay for like $200. My review...

Pros:

- Built like a tank, as most Boss effects are.

- The overdrives, comps and expression pedal are excellent. The "Dyna-Comp" has replaced my amp's onboard comp; in fact, the ME-50B has almost totally replaced all of my amp's controls for tweaking my sound.

- Simpler is better. The ME-50B has knobs for everything for easy tweaking, doesn't have shmancy amp modeling, and doesn't require scrolling through menus with buttons that you have to press in video game combo sequences for minor adjustments. I feel much more in control of my sound with the ME-50B than with my old Digitech BP-80.

- I can actually see my floor, and it is easier to move my rig around, as opposed to a mess of cables and individual pedals.

Cons:

- The synths and wahs are not impressive to me. Fortunately, I don't use them in my usual sounds.

- The phaser/chorus/etc. are good, but suffer from the fact that you can't use them together.

- I haven't yet been able to find a filter effect that I like with the ME-50B, so I still lean on my old Bassballs pedal when I'm feeling funky.

- The ME-50B's tuner works, but isn't stage friendly since you have to hit two pedals at once to turn it on and off. It would be perfect if I could just quickly tap one pedal to use the tuner, like the TU-2. In fact, I have put my TU-2 in line in front of the ME-50B so I can do just that.

Overall, I like my ME-50B, and I don't regret buying it one bit. I just wish a few things about it were different, as I showed above...
