Supposedly, if you have all of the eq and master set flat and the compressor off, it's basically tryue bypass. I don't know if that's true or not, but it had no effect (pun intended) on my tone when I did this. Couldn't tell it was there.

The EQ is really very transparent anyway, so one thing you can do is set the EQ where you want it in one spot for most of your patches and then add the other effects on top.

So far as being a tone-sucker (as I think that's what you are really getting at) it is definitely NOT a tone sucking machine at all. It sounds really good.

Still waiting for my ME-50b :bawl: ,.....You guys that somehow already got yours?,....what do you think of the Noise suppression feature?,.......Also why is the general consensus already that the synths are no good,......Not that I would ever use them anyway or very little, but from the demo, it seems like they are ok for what they are,.......It seems like they should be usable but I don't know,..I am not a synth guru,......Also, and this is a huge important question,.....does this unit thin up your bass tone any, or even a little bit, when comparing the processed tones you get with this unit verses just plugging straight into the amp? Or in other words, is it possible to create a "true bypass" patch that sounds like its just your bass and amp with nothing in between and no "thinning" of your bass tone? Thanks everyone.....

while it's not true bypass, there's no noticable effect on the tone. With regards to what you say about using a patch as a type of bypass, you could certainly do that.
When I had a Digitech BP8 previously, I had patches that only had eq and some compression. I used one of those patches 95% of the time, then switched to whatever effect patch I wanted.

As to the synths, compared to every non-Boss bass synth pedal out there, they're just not that good. I wasn't expecting fantastic sounds, but I did hope they might be usable. The most usable sounds I got were using them with the expression pedal to control resonance.

I would have to agree. I really like my Deep Impact anyway and this just doesn't compare to it at all.

The other stuff is good, but the Synth feature is weak.

Thanks for cuing us all in on a cool new product.

Don't forget, if the bypass issue really bothers you, you can always buy a bypass pedal and place it in your signal chain. When engaged, it will bypass the entire Boss unit and send your signal direct to your amp. I'm no electronics expert, but I have noticed in most pedals that even if you have the effects off and EQ flat, you might still have some signal degradation (volume and/or tone) because your signal is still running through a lot of additional circuits within the effects unit. I have not tried this Boss Multi-Effect pedal, so I can't speak for this particular situation.

Yeah, thanks for posting this link. I was just thinking how it'd be nice to have a multi-effect unit that didn't have the amp modeling. And after watching that video, how nice it would be to have a Kenneth Lawrence bass ;) a question though- does it come with the ac adaptor?

I sold my EH Bass Synth and Fulltone Bass Driver and used the money to pick up an ME-50B and must say that it was well worth shipping off two pedals for this unit. I've always hated multi effects units and preferred individual analog boxes. However, after having my FOURTH EH Bass Synth break down on me (and the general frustration of keeping an analog pedal board up and running), I decided to give the ME-50B a try.

All in all, I am pleasantly surprised in this multi effect. The layout is simple enough for a technophobe like myself and the distortions are sweet. Sure the synths are weak (I have owned an SYB Boss and Digitech Synth Wah as well), but when you assign the foot controller to the resonance, the sounds are fairly usable in a live setting. Using the pedal on a current gig, I have been able to emulate a recorded sound from that Korg G5 (?) unit fairly well. It may not be an Akai SB-1, but that is an unfair comparison for a $300 multi effect that has all that the ME-50 has.

Some of the geeky features are cool as well. The kick is really just an at-home practice tool, yet I can 't resist tripping out drummers every now ana again by kicking along with them. I had a guitar player freaking out at a rehersal that the drummer's kick sounded so full. You can also lay out a four on the floor beat and jam on garage/house beats. Geeky yes, but fun just the same. Again, I'm just surprised that there is a multi effect that I like. :hyper:

Recently I have been wanting some compression for certain songs (maybe all of them), and also the semi parametric eq section (on the mids) is really appealing to me. I have had similar eq control before on my mids and it makes a difference for getting my sound. No totally useless, non functioning, and/or goofy effects like on other multi-effects units I have checked out (at least it seems like this unit has left those off),......And NO MENU's!!!!, just mostly knobs!!!! I've already ordered one and I am just waiting for them to be released.......I just hope the incredible tones I already get out of my Ampeg V4-BH all tube head are not lost completely. Is there anyone else that like me, generally stays away from these units, but thinks this could be a good one? I guess really only time will tell,...but I am interested in others thoughts on this one, if anyone wants to add.......

I'm going to get mine today acutally. I went to a musicstore and tried it out a few days ago, and it's realy COOL. One thing that I like is the expression pedal. It really works. And the sounds are clean and nice allover. Including the synthbass sound, other synthbass pedals I've tried, started to mess up the sound then you bend strings or slide or even moves for fingers too quickly, but this one didn't no matter what I did, the only way to do that is to play two notes at the same time, that it can't do. But other than that it's really GREAT. I could go on and on about things i like about this little beauty, but I think you got the idea ;)

and yes I to have had the problem that I would like some effects on my bass, but just couldn't find anything that sounded good enough.

go and get it!!! :D ;) :p
