Meet Grace, and her bass

There are widely varying degrees of impairment from SB. Some people are mildly inconvenienced. Some are completely paralized. Since she needs a wheelchair, she is clearly more than mildly inconvenienced. But how much more? If she is completely paralized, pedals would be kind of a cruel joke.

So, can she use her feet? Would pedals work, or does she need goodies she can work with her hands? I suppose it's a little early to think rack gear.

It is way early to think about rack gear!:D

There are a couple of people sending pedals. Grace can set them on a table and engage them with her hand. It won't be quite on the fly like with feet, but she will manage.

She may wind up not liking effects, but since a couple were offered, I thought that they might be nice to kind of keep her interest during the dry lessons like positions, names of notes, scales, and stuff like that.

Barring a miracle, Grace will always be paralyzed from the waist down. But that doesn't mean she can't use pedals. She will just engage them differently than you or I.

How totally cool is this? Congrats to (Amazing)Grace. I'd like to help out too. I have a book order coming in about 2-3 weeks, I would like to get her a Book/CD or DVD package. If you have already gotten her a "Lesson" book, I will get her some kind of songbook, playalong or something like that. I'll PM you a list of titles she may like.

Funny, I suggested that she get that as her username here on TB...:)

She will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. :D

She just loves it. Purple is her favorite color. Of course, I told Bassic83 that before he bought the bass.

Grace was so excited to get her own bass! I told Bassic83 that I wish he had been here in person to see her. She wouldn't let go of my hand the whole rest of the night after I presented the bass to her.

Saw this thread on the Worship Bass forum as I visit there more than here. It was inspirational there, too, and I loved reading the reactions of everyone here.

The interesting thing to me is just how right that bass is for her. It doesn't look like a small instrument in the pictures of just her and the bass. It looks like Grace's bass, which it is. It's only seeing the instrument with the youth minister that it appears small. I appreciated that comparison detail.

What a lovely girl Grace is! and what a wonderful thing Embellisher, Bassic83, Talkbass.com and all the others have done for her.
