Todd Bainbridge in Vancouver pulling it apart in Jan. to get to the heart of the matter....exact date, origionality of color(CAR in '61 ???).Can't wait to see the innards !!!!!
The more I read about early Fullerton paint jobs.....the less is for sure. They did lots of custom color requests, mostly over botched sun-bursts.Some actually had no primer......http://www.guitarhq.com/
Beautiful bass. Love that old pickguard too. Congrats. I hope it sounds as good as it looks. I have a 63, welcome to the club. In fact, go post this bass in the pre-cbs club thread.
Candy Apple Red wasn't one of the 14 original custom colors Fender offered in '60/61. CAR first appeared in 1963 (or possibly late '62). Dakota and Fiesta Red were the only red choices in 1961. The back of the neck also looks exceptionally clean for 50+ years old.. so along with the CAR body, I'd say there's lno doubt in my mind it's been refinned. Still a truly awesome bass though, Merry Christmas to you!!
Beautiful piece of history congrats and it looks like I didn't make the same side of Santa's list you did?
I'll keep you posted on the re-fin question. The neck probably isn't,it was parked from 77 till now, just very low miles. The paint will be answered in Jan.
