Mesa 810?

Buy it. If you don't, I will. Then you will feel bad. I spoke to the owner briefly on Thursday. As you say, he seems alright. If he had posted those pictures of the cab in his garage, instead of that one outside, I would have been all over it. I mistakenly thought the cab was stored outside on his patio. I even started a thread on heat and the effect on speakers. $450 delivered! Your good luck is continuing.

Aww man! Yeah he was nice enough to let me PayPal him $100 to hold it and bring the price down till I got back from gigging out of town this weekend. I tell you what, if it doesn't work out for me, I will be contacting you about it. And I agree with you, that picture he had on CL was bogus!

Its a mesa vintage ph810. Just a cloth grill instead of metal. Thats a helluva deal
It would be too high a risk for me personally with only what I know from this thread so far. However, even if it's a knockoff, it looks so well done that for $450 (if it sounds good when you play through it) it might actually still be more of a steal than deal. :)

They made cabs like that I think in the Sob head era btw the wicker and hand rubbed mk2 and Diesel.

Treat it like any used cab and make sure the cones are right, and the wiring is good.

A missing plate would be unusual for inventory control reasons if it was rented extensively. A lot of times you'd see extra identifying marks or paint, but it's not a firm thing.

Go slow, bc the price is right but I always get a little edgy when people offer to deliver.

Check the cab corners and sides like you are inspecting a house if it was rented.

Buying potentially stolen gear is never good.

Edit:
Cheap price. Delivered. No serial number.

It smells stolen.
No serial number while everything else is intact and pristine (as best I can see from the pictures) is red flag number one. An unconvincing explanation as to what happened to the serial number is red flag number two. Maybe I've just spent too many years around the national security, intelligence and law enforcement communities, but things like this set-off multiple alarms in my head. No disrespect intended toward the seller who may be a good, honest guy who's just trying to move some stuff along at a fair price.

No definitive proof of anything. Just enough things that don't feel right.

Just confirmed that the cab was used as a rental and is perfectly legal, and everything works great. Now it's just a matter of jamming on it!! Hurray!

Great, treat it like buying a taxicab with 300k miles on it and go over it slowly and methodically.

Rentals get beat on, buy with judicious suspicion that it took a header off a Tommy lift and that customers used it like they were trying to pop the cones.

So I finally got the cab due to the sellers and my complex schedules. He delivered it so that was just icing on the cake. All for $450!! And it's pretty much in new condition and everything worked as it should. Anyway I got the whole scoop on the cab and it turns out that this cab was part of Slipknots backline... The seller works for a major special effects and backline company here in Vegas and was on tour with the band as well.... Long story short, he is a bass player and was able to obtain it but he didn't need it at all like he thought he would...
I haven't gigged it yet but I A/B'd it with my Ampeg 6x10. The Ampeg has more natural low end believe it or not.... But I easily was able to compisate by boosting the lows on the amp.... Either way, I am really happy with the way things turned out!
