On Thursdays, I do a local wing night for charity. The sound guy bring in his amp for me to use - a Mark Bass CMD121. I love it. I've been using a Mesa/Boogie 400+ for twenty-nine years (bought it one the same loan as my first car) but the weight of it is getting to be too much. I'm seriously torn between buying a lighter amp or a collapsible hand truck. However, I am considering Mark Bass as a replacement. Congrats on the new cabs I bet it all sounds killer together!

Yes, a Mesa D-800+ and Markbass cabs makes for a great pairing. Ask me how I know...

Two 8ohm Markbass Traveler 151P (45lbs ea)
Two 8ohm Markbass Traveler 102P (37lbs ea)
After hauling around a 100lb+ Peavey 1820 cab for years, anything under 50lbs makes me extremely happy.

Nice! I just saw the new 58 series cabs at GC this week; when I picked up the 2x10 it was floored by how light it was, and they also had a 4x10 that felt much lighter than my 2x10 cab which weights about 36-38lbs. Crazy!

Yeah, I had the same experience. My Mesa cabs were already light(-ish), but these are 20lbs lighter still.

Needs more cabs.

The ohm load is maxed out on the Mesa, 2 ohms. But I can break out my EarthQuaker Swiss Things Pedalboard Reconciler, that has two effects loop and is an A/B splitter to switch between two amps or run them both at the same time. Then I could run another rig. But I'm done buying cabs and amps for awhile, basses too.

I have two amps, 5 cabs, 5 electric basses, one acoustic bass. And a 1300 watt self powered JBL EON715 PA system (650 watts per cab x 2). I also have a Zoom LiveTrak 20 channel recorder / mixing board, gobs of cables, mics, pedals. Someone else in the band can buy gear for awhile. I've done my share.

I’m pretty sure that 2ohms is just a suggestion rather than a real limitation.

Well if there is an amp maker out there to make an amp that will go below 2 ohms, it'll be Mesa! But I'll take a pass on finding out with this amp.

I have designed an amp that will do 1 ohm, but frankly it's not a practical solution because the output current quickly becomes unmanageable. For example, to do 800 watts into 1 ohm requires about 30 amps RMS and about 42 amps peak. This is well beyond the capabilities of a standard speaker connector.

How much does it require to do 2 ohms? And is it why in high power amps it's recommended to use Neutrik connectors in their design as well as the cabs they power instead of the older 1/4" standard?

~20 amps RMS, 28 amps peak. Yes, this is one reason for SpeakOn connectors.

I just bought the Markbass 104 pure 4x10 cab and the Markbass 58R and the little mark tube 800 and have the Mesa wd800 hybrid head ordered to see which one I like best. I'm sure I will take the Markbass heads back to Guitar Center and keep the Mesa. I don't know how GC stays in business but I will go into that in another thread and pic's later.
