Hey Guys,
I've got a dead Mesa Big Block Titan V12. It had a glorious death years ago in the middle of a show; smoke, fire and the works. A power mosfet fried. I removed the Mosfet block in an attempt to replace and fix. Three moves, two apartments, one exgirlfriends house and a whole bunch of life changes later parts are missing (Big Surprise).
I'm piecing together another bass rig for an up coming tour and I start looking online for tube bass pre-amps. It dawns on me, I already have a tube pre-amp... kinda. The Titan V12. I remove any left over wiring associated with the mosfet block and I test plug in. I flip the Power switch on with one hand on the other hand is on the power conditioner master switch as an emergency kill. The jewel lights up, the fans turned on, the pre-amp tubes start glowing... didn't smell anything funky. However I did not turn on the standby switch in fear that I just don't know how components will react with missing bits and no loads.
So, my question is...Is this plausible? Can my dead Mesa Big Block Titan V12 be run without the mosfet block? And if so, does it need that big heavy toroidal transformer? Can that toroidal transformer be happy without the load of the mosfets? Any other precautions to be aware of?
