Mesa Boggie 400+ should I ??

Well, just to prove that you're sometimes better being patient, I am presently waiting for my 400+ to arrive ....

I found one in what seems to be very good shape, aesthetic condition is perfect, tubes have low hours on them and it has the original Mesa case for it !! Even with shipping fees, it came out at a really good price !!!

Yes you did !! Thanks to all who gave their .02 and advices.

Now , if I can only get a nice cab for it. Don't know if I can throw you some possible candidates. I have no clue as to what sounds good with this head, sealed or not, tweeter ? I won't move that thing often.

I have a few cabs available close to me:
- Yorkville 8x8"
- EV tl606 1x15"
- EV B115M (2 available)
- Aguilar DB410 tweed
- Mesa Diesel 4x10" deep version.
- Mesa Roadready Powerhouse 1000
- Avatar B212



Anyone have any input on those ?

P.S. Didn't know if I should list prices for each ??

IF you can find a Bergantino NV series cabinet - 6x10, 4x12 or 2x15 - those sealed cabs are such a great match for the Mesa 400+. And relatively light-weight. And tilt-back, which I prefer to pushing on 4 wheels.

Of those on your list - I think a single 15 won't be enough, even though I'm a TL606 fan. The Diesel is nice. The Powerhouse is an oddball with the 15 and 4x10's in one box and is a monster cabinet to haul around.

That Avatar 2x12 might be solid.

Of those choices, I'd probably opt for the Aguilar, but I've never owned and Aguilar - so it may just be for the mystique of it.

No thoughts on the Yorkville.

Hi again guys !!

Well I m down to picking my cab for the 400+, the final candidates are,

Mesa Roadready Powerhouse 1000 (older series, Diesel ?)
Mesa Powerhouse 215
Mesa Diesel 4x10" deep version


Both the Roadready abd the 215 are 750$ and the Diesel is 600 .Can $

Note that the cab will sit in my basement, wont be moved much.

So, what does the jury say ?

Sounds like a real PITA that by the time you fix it, would probably end up costing as much as a used Mesa ready to go. 400s and 400+s show up in the classifieds on a pretty regular basis here, . You made the right decision walking away from this amp. As was stated, broken knobs and pots is a pretty good indicator that the amp was treated like crap. There's really no excuse for that type of stuff considering it's a rack-mountable unit.

Hope you enjoy your new amp. I love my 400+.

Yes, yes, yes. I played one for the first time 15 years ago. Best tone and headroom I've ever experienced.

I've owned SWR, Hartke, Acoustic, Fender, and G&K heads. This head will clearly out tone and power them all. No amp has the tone or presence like this heavy weight.

None apparently.
The general rule these days is don't mix driver sizes unless the speakers are all crossed over separately.
Though that would never keep me from playing the PH1000 if I had one.
You know, something someone on the internet said.

Well, just to complete this thread, I finally picked up a Powerhouse 1000 Roadready Cab, earlier version . It was a good deal and speakers were in very good shape.

I gave it a go and am quite satisfied !

Thanks to all who contributed, again, for your inputs .

I Love the Mesa stuff btw
