Mesa Boogie 2x15 OR Ampeg PR-15h

Yeah, I do like the tone of the pr410, but I never heard a mesa diesel 2x15. Wouldn't the 15's make my lower end tighter?

Oh, and if it makes any difference, I'm mainly going to use a 4 string, but not all the time. And is an 810e louder than two ampeg pr410hlf?
Thank you guys!

The 15s might not make your low end tighter, but that cab might have a tighter low end. If you don't like the low end of your pr410 then your better selling it and getting a different cab then trying to resolve it by adding another.

I don't know the specifics, but an 810e might seem louder because of it's more mid range focus (although I've heard newer stuff has a bit of a dull quality to it, something I found with p410s to be honest actually, nice bright top end but a bit dull in the mids for my liking) but your pr410 will have plenty more lows and highs. Likely that an 810e will be louder then one of your pr410s with it having more mid focus, but if you had 2 no way. Still though "loudness" is quite subjective because it's based on hearing and feeling the frequencies that you want to hear, if I want a majorly low end heavy tone out of a PJB (the ones with loads of the little 5 inch drivers) cab then it won't seem loud to me, likewise if I want a really low mid heavy tone and I play through an SWR cab then likewise that won't sound very loud either.

Whoops, seems I've been confusing the pro series pr410 with the classic series hlf410 all this time, still though I imagine it's a bit broader into the lows and highs then a 810e by quite a bit...

Mesa Boogie 2x15 is all the cabinet you'll need. Not a muddy sounding as the Ampeg 410hlf. I've enjoyed mine (actually a TL606 2x15 I built) for over 10 years now.

i have 2 pr series bass cabs the pr 410 hlf and the pr 410h, they sound great together, the pr 115h is a 8 ohm and will not exactly match the out put of your svt 4 pro amp if you use both at the same time, if you hooke up both cans in mono you will be running it at about 6 ohm or so, the 115 h was made to go together with the pr 410 h, then both cabs went out of production when they starting making the pr410 hlf at 4 ohm, and they left the pr 810h, wich it was basically two pr 410 h in the same enclosure that you can can run mono at 4 ohm and stereo at 8 ohm, i ran my cabs before i switch the speakers of the 410 hlf with the speakers of another 410h making the cab at 8 ohm, with a carvin r 600 with no problems at all for 2 to 3 yrs with no problems at all, untill i left it at a show in another state show ( dont ask how, haha) thats when i bought an all tube amp and had to make the cabs either 4 or 8 ohms each, i think these cabs sound better than any mesa cab in my oppinion. to bad they are out of production, they are also heavy cabs, that is one of the reason why they went out of production and where also expensive to buld, i hope that helps.

He's using a pr410 not a hlf410 at the moment ;)

ok... Read the thread title... I still say the 2x15 is the best choice. I can't attest to any 4x10s. I've only used 8x10 and 2x15 cabs (large cabs anyway), and found the 2x15 lighter and better sounding... Hence my response. But thanks for the boost. ;)

Yeah I just don't get where your reference to the hlf came into it though. Anyway unless he's gonna sell his ampeg and just run the mesa it's a bad choice.

This isn't any sort of stupid speaker size bias, cos all of that is nonsense due to there being no sound in a speaker size, plus I own an NV215 myself and I've not got a more appropriate sound for my playing out of any other cab.

I've played through, and/or heard most of Ampeg's cabinets with both Eden and SVT (tube) heads, and the 410HLF goes very low, but has a kind of "wool-y" sound I don't care for in general... Could just be my ears. But the Mesa 2x15 cab just sounds better than the 410HLF cab to me... And I am recommending selling the Ampeg while players are still buying that name and that size cabinet. I'd MUCH rather have your Berg 2x15 though!! Isn't it a sealed cab?

My point was that isn't the Ampeg he owns though, that's all.

I do agree with you about the hlf's low end though, to me it's a bit uncontrolled too, but in some situations it seems to sound very good, my mate plays in a slow heavy hardcore punk band, and he's very much into the sansamp kinda tone with his Stingray. There isn't a better cab I could think of for projecting the overdriven sansamp rock tone, because the tweeter deals with all of the high mids and top end and the woofers put out some nice thickness to back it up, mids aren't really a problem in this case obviously.

Anyway that's not the cab he owns so it's a bit off topic still :p

The NV215 is a sealed cab, but it seems to go pretty low too, if you cut the high bass it gets really tight too and you can keep all the dubby low end that you want which is awesome. Anyway there are plenty of 4x10s/8x10s/8x8s/1x15crossedoverto3x10s etc etc out there that sound awesome, speaker size has virtually nothing to do with how a speaker cab sounds.
