Mesa/Boogie Official Club Thread

OK, I figured that I'd move all my random mesa ramblings to hear instead of the "help me pick a mesa head" thread since the head has been chosen :).

I just can't say it enough. Big props to mesa, they know what they're doing. I plugged into the titan, started playing, and knew that was the sound that I had been looking for.

I've loved my 212 cab for 3 years now... never been anything short of amazing.

Now I gotta decide if I want to add another 212, or go another direction. Don't know how mixing driver sizes would go. I know I love the 10s too. The Titan and an 810 would be hazardous to my... ear drums? Who knows...

Oh well, it's a great problem to have!

Yes it is. I've actually gotten rid of two Powerhouse cabs earlier this year. Wasn't 'cause they sounded bad of course, just trying to lose weight. I had all 10's, and they were the deepest punchiest 10's I've ever had. I can only imagine how good the 12's are, I only have a single Scout 12 to compare. BUT, in your shoes, a Powerhouse 410, with the 212 would just plain murder. But, it would be big. Another 212 would also, (I'm sure), sound fantastical. It would not suck at all to be in your shoes right now.

Hi!

I'm thinking of buying Powerhouse cabs as a companion to my Ampeg SVT-3Pro. The thing is that I'd prefer small and portable cabs as I don't play big gigs. I haven't heard Powerhouses yet, I only played Fathom combo which I didn't like as the tone was very, very dry. I guess it's rather the metter of the amp. I'm looking for roomy and clear tone myself (I like treble knob a lot).
I don't know which configuration would be optimal:
-2 x 1x12: few TB users use such mini rig and they are happy with it, but I'm not sure if it is enough,
-1x15 + 2x10: bigger brothers, much more heavier, but still small,
-4x10 with 1x15 or 2x10: is 4x10 necessary and essential? or is it replaceable with smaller cabs?

I want to buy only one cab at first so it should be enough to stand alone (I will add second one later).

Any suggestions?

Cheers, Kris

This is a bad picture, but I'm a horrible photographer.

At least Mesa makes pretty things :).

Haha I know all about taking bad pictures. I can never seem to get them to focus right or convey the true beauty of anything like so many people here can. Maybe I need a new camera?

I love the blue/purple running light on the big block. When I powered up the titan I was like "...oooh... nice."

jetofuj, Mesa cabs are very clear and voiced very well to my ear. The treble shines through just enough with the perfect touch of bass and plenty of low mids. One of the reasons I love the mesa cabs is because of how clear they are without sacrificing booty. I've played through lots of cabs that had too much high end to the point of being shrill, and a lot of cabs with subpar tweeters so I just got a lot of lows and mud. I think the tweeter is a very essential part of my sound because it just adds so much clarity. I personally don't know how so many people can play without them, but it's a matter of taste.

I know at least a few members here have 2 112 powerhouse cabs. If they are anything like my 212, they will kill--probably even more so because I think two separate cabs would give each driver more dedicated air space... I don't know much about acoustics or cab building, but I'm pretty sure it's a good thing.

Either of the other two cab setups you talked about would be fine. Mesa cabs are very efficient and pretty loud. I think you'll run out of clean head room on your head before even coming close to maxing them out, so no worries there. Then when you outgrow that head, you can get a nice mesa head to match the stack you'll have going ;).

Behold, the "Wall of Doom":hyper:
Mesa Titan V12 and a couple Epifani 1000wt cabs
The tone of the Titan ranges from absolute solid state to extreme saturation and all points between...very versatile head... I dig it

THANK YOU for that picture of the titan. I can't find any good high res pictures of it. That's just about the biggest I've seen. Hopefully staring at that should help me during this waiting stage. This 6-8 weeks is gonna kill me.

Are you just using channel 2 as a mute?

Is it just me or does the guy in this ebay ad come across as an ass?

I called mesa Hollywood and they were selling their floor model for $1599. I don't think discontinuation leads to an immediate jump in price. If mesa for some reason doesn't come out with another tube head and this remains in the "2 week old" condition for a few more years, then maybe... but already? That's a little ridic IMO.

Also, I'd like to add that after I get my speakers sorted out and the titan all paid for, I'd really like a walkabout scout to keep for practicing in my apartment. I'd love to have all that mesa sound in a nice small package.

Damnit, I need to start a Mesaholics Anonymous group somewhere :(.

Edit: Damn! If someone is in Illinois they need to check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mesa-Venture-60...ryZ64397QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The head alone usually goes for 800 or 900. Throw in the 212 cab... that's a nice deal.

I dont need no stinking # !

I prefer the subdued look above as well.

Mesa Scout 15" here. Happened to catch a decent deal on a inexpesnive, but US made ( nos) Hartke 2X10 cab, and ran it alongside the 15" Scout combo at the last gig.

WHOA. Deeper, nice quick transients, smoother highs and more punch. Great combo!

The Scout is what 45 lbs and the H210XL is not over 30. FOr 75 lbs, its a pretty good rig.

Havent changed out the Scout speaker to an 8 ohm yet, and not sure I want to, although 4+ 8 brings us to 2.7 or so, yes? The 210XL is louder than the Scout cab now, and I dont want it any louder.

Am I corect in assuming that replacing the 4 ohm Scout driver with an 8 ohm will cut its volume? I better call Mesa.

Right now that's exacty what I'm doing. I just don't find the need (yet) for a couple different tones..Haven't even explored the floor board yet.....
But as a straight up head it's really does give me the SS tone of my previous head and the balls on of an Ampeg on roids....:D

Put it through it's paces at loud volue and it's ....well it's a mesa! no disappointment. The sales guy sold me as soon as he plugged it in!

Uh oh. Got a call from my dealer today saying that the titan was in? About 4-6 weeks earlier than they told me. Haha, it's great news, just need to sell some stuff now :P. Should pick it up tomorrow or saturday.

sweet rig bro!..is that a 4ohm 2x10 or 8ohm 2x10 your running with the big block

Thanks, it's an 8ohm.

Why you ask?

It's hard to find 2x10's around here, I may swap it for a 4ohm. I haven't gigged with it yet (not in a band), when I do I'll determine if I need more horse power.

Visirale, good luck with the Titan, I hope your ears are plugged :).
