Mesa Boogie, Part 3

Hi Mesa fans & fellows,

In hurry what would you pick between these 3 :
M-Pulse 600 or M6 Carbine or Walkabout

your thoughts?

Though I've only had my M-Pulse 360 for about a month now, maybe not even, I'm really liking this amp. I haven't had a chance to try the Carbines out that much, but I'm pretty sure they're quite clean amp, where as the M-Pulse and the Walkabout are capable of getting a more dirty tone when the gain is past 12:00. I'd definitely try all three of them out if possible, though.

Seriously, I own a Carbine M6, and I played a Walkabout Scout 1x12" combo as well before making my decision. I play LOUD music (metal, punk), and the Carbine was SO much more aggressive than the Walkabout. The Carbines have 12AX7s as well, so you'll get some tube distortion when you crank the gain on any of them.
I liked the size of the Walkabout Scout combo, but I would have had to purchase a second 12" cab to get the headspace I need, and that would have put me close to $2000. I got the Carbine M6 2x12" combo for around $1300, and it is a MONSTER.
I have never played an M-Pulse before; however, if you were to purchase any of these heads, along with a PH212 cab, you are set for life.

Attribute some of your grit to your Spectors, also. I find I get a nice gritty tone from mostly my Spector Euro 5LX but the tube pre does add some balls to my tone as well. I'm running the MP360 into a PH412 and PH610, so I bet that the power from the M9 into the PH212 would be a killer combo. I still really need to get out and play some of the Carbines.

Yes, I can attest that it is a killer- to drivers inside the PH212 box! :D :bawl: Gotta assess the damage tonight at practice....

I chose the M-Pulse 600 for its tube-tones, build-in compressor and huge power.
The Walkabout is definitely a sweet sweet little head, I like it. But its 165w @ 8ohms is not enough for gigging, no match versus the 100 watts Hiwatt of my guitarist.
The M6 is loud and clean, just as my brand new MarkBass Momark 600.

I have to tidy my room and take some family pictures of all my gear.

I own an MPulse600 and run it through two Mesa PH410 cabs.
The sound is HUGE.
Will blow a person off their feet...hahaha!! :bassist:
I cannot see how anyone could go wrong with a MP600.
I love mine. :hyper:

What's the wattage at 2 ohms on the MP600? I know it's recommended that you run it at 4 but I've had no problems with my 360 at 2 ohms yet. I believe the 360 is 625watts at 2 ohms, and this amp has never been pushed past half with my two cabs. I can't even imagine what the 600 would deliver at 2 ohms.

Ouch.. At least you know the guys at Mesa will take care of you should you need replacements.

Maybe this gives you a reason to pick up a second PH212? :hiding::hyper:

Lol it's funny you mention that, because I actually do have two! :D
I just had only been rocking one the last few weeks, since my "main" cab was at the studio getting reamped for our album. But I admittedly did just re-EQ my entire setup to fit our newly-formed 3 piece since we fired our "lead" guitar player, so that's some of it I'm sure.
I'm going to take some video of it just for reference but from what I heard on Saturday night, it definitely is toast. :(

I am curious to know just how much grit/dirt can be coaxed out of the M6 and M9s - from what Chef says, not WA fuzz, but at least some, right?

Yeah, you gotta go past about 1:00 on the Gain, IME to really get some dirt going. It's there, you just are gonna have to compensate your Master Level and some other knobs for tailoring your "tone" around the Gain control/level.
