Mesa Boogie, Part 3

Ah, don't tell me these things!! I've been running my MP360 down to 2 ohms for the past month or so, but not at high volumes, usually right arought 9:00 or so, and the amp doesn't seem to get very hot. The manual states that it can be done but isn't recommended, I hope I don't run into any issues with this amp at 2 ohms.

I love that the Carbines have the 2-ohm toggle switch; I will play ALL gigs at 2.75 ohms!!!

So, I kind of have a dilemma- on my PH212 cab that blew, I have the Mesa plastic tag that came on the cab, but I can't find my GC receipt... The tag has the SN for the cab that is busted, but I guess that doesn't mean anything in regard to the timeline of when the cab was purchased, which was Jan 2010. Will they still replace/fix the driver if I don't have the actual receipt? I have it for my second cab, but I'd rather not be dishonest about it just bc I can't find the receipt for the one that's broken and use the receipt & tag for my fully functional cab... :hiding:

Yup, I called them the other week just to see if a serial on a cab I had bought used, may have a warranty still on it and was told that they don't keep a data base by serial number for warranty info unless you registered your cab. If you registered it when you purchased it you can give them your name to see if its still covered.

Anyhu, couldn't your contact GC and see if they can find a copy of your receipt in their data base?

Hi Mesa fans & fellows,

In hurry what would you pick between these 3 :
M-Pulse 600 or M6 Carbine or Walkabout

your thoughts?

To me, the Carbines are quick and clean, almost like a G-K... whereas the Walkabout is very tubey sounding - much warmer and softer sounding than the Carbines... The M-pulse 600 is somewhere between the two - it can be quick and clean like the Carbines, or can be warmed up to approach the Walkabout sound - but not quite get there... The Walkabout also does not have enough power for *some* people, whereas the Carbines and M-pulse 600 have power to spare...

I had a BB750 that wouldn't stay clean enough at my typical volumes, but knew I wanted to stick with Mesa as an alternative to the G-K 700rb-II I also had... At 1st, I *thought* I wanted an M6 or M9 Carbine - but after checking them out, I came to the conclusion that they couldn't do much for me that my 700rb-II couldn't do... I ended up trading the BB750 and cash for a new M-pulse 600, and have been really happy with the decision - it'll do most of what the G-K will do, then a whole lot more besides that...

Since Mesa discontinued the M-p 600, you might want to consider going that route while they're still available - after all, they're not hard to flip, and you'll always be able to pick up a Carbine on the used market for a reasonable price...

JMHO, but it's based off of checking this situation out quite a bit in my own interests...

What's the wattage at 2 ohms on the MP600? I know it's recommended that you run it at 4 but I've had no problems with my 360 at 2 ohms yet. I believe the 360 is 625watts at 2 ohms, and this amp has never been pushed past half with my two cabs. I can't even imagine what the 600 would deliver at 2 ohms.

I don't know, but I won't be running mine that way - it's not recommended... I use 1 big cab, and can't see myself needing any more than that - but if I did, I've already experimented with slaving my other amp off my M-p 600 to drive a 2nd cab, and it was truly monsterous:

Yeah I thought about that as I was typing up that post, so that's probably where I'll go first and see what I can get from the store. My bad!

Should be a non-issue: Mesa has a 5 year transferrable warranty, so you should be good to go...

As much as I love my M9, your words about the M-P600 still make me want to give it a whirl- for the 4th time!! :D

Hahahaha!!! - yeah, it's a great amp... I figure that between the 700rb-II and M-p 600, I've got the SS and hybrid thing covered pretty well... I'm gonna buy either a 400+ or SVT sometime this year, then I'll have the bass amp trifecta...

I'm also going to buy a bass preamp pedal sometime this year - probable either Radial's Bassbone or EBS's Microbass - just to have as an EQ-able alternative to my Countryman DI...

What can I say, I like having lots of gear!!!

Any rumors about the mp-600 product gap being filled by something else?

Well both of the new Strategy tube amps are coming out soon, so that'll be some of it.

Maybe even a higher powered Walkabout that's been rumored? If the M-P600 is indeed D/C'd, then that could be the case... they could use the same chassis and materials, etc. and wouldn't even need much retooling. Would just need a bigger power supply with the front end of the WA and go for it.

The MP600 has a different eq; so, they'd need to re-tool that.
And, the Walkabout *is* 2 ohm ready, whereas the 600 isn't.

If there is a new Walkabout 6000 (900!!!), I'd hope they'd keep 2 ohm ready, as in the M6/9...it's a feature I like, and use.

I guess I more meant it wouldn't necessarily be a totally "new" amp they'd have to start from the ground-up on, and they could put it in the chassis design of the M-P600, since they should still have some of those around I'd surmise since it and the WA look almost exactly similar, just in a smaller package.
I understand fine that they're different amps pretty much altogether, but I guess I'd think the "foundation" of a WA 600 or 900 is already almost there. I know lots of folks here (like me) love the Carbine stuff, but a high-powered WA would be a monster success for them IMO.

I'll get the M-Pulse 600 newt week because my Basis M-2000 is not properly functional. I own a 1974 SVT, the new markbass Momark (digital) and the MXR DI +.

What can I say ? Actually, Georges is my middle name !!
