...I want to go back to Mesa tubes, but I really don't want to lug around a D-180 or 400. The Buster should fit the bill nicely.

As a former Buster combo owner, I can tell you that the term "lug around" is part and parcel of the Buster experience!
Oh, but the TONE!

I'm a current Buster owner with a weakened and injured right shoulder who doesn't mind the weight. I have to change kegs out at work so that might be influencing my opinion of what heavy is...

Lugging a combo in one trip is better than lugging a head and cabinet that each weigh as much as the combo.

Plus, I like the mellower tone of the Buster vs the larger Mesa tube heads. I've jammed thru a Buster before and I owned a 400+ for awhile, I was never able to get the Buster tone from the 400+, even thru an old Mesa 15.

It's like trying to get the WA tone from the MP600, you can get close, but it just isn't the same.

Now I just gotta sell my current Mesa rig to fund my next one. Anyone interested in picking up a M-2000 loaded into a 2x12 Mesa cab? It's up in the classifieds.

Did you try Mesa? I know they don't make the Buster anymore, but they may have a head case in the warehouse or something. Worth a shot.

After a few years away, I'm pretty sure I'm returning to the Mesa camp once again. I used to own/gig an M6 Carbine and Vintage Powerhouse 810.

Now I'm picking up a Titan V12 and a PH1200. If everything goes right, I should have it by next weekend.

Kinda silly to have two large amps around (my current rig is an Eden WT1205 into a D610XST), but I've always wanted a Titan, and I'm also one of those rare people who LIKES the PH1200 cabs. But, what the heck, only gonna live once....

Is that a V Twin pedal? How does it sound with a bass? I am interested in scooping one up to use as a headphone amp/OD pedal to run in front of a Buster 15 combo that I hope I can score.

My pedal is the V1 Bottle Rocket. Still uses two tubes, but has a 2 band eq and is only on and off, no headphone jack either.
It sounds great though, nice tubey richness to the saturation. I haven't gotten around to tube rolling lower gain tubes in it. I accidentally severed the power cable on something, so I need to track down a new one first.

Same here. Buster was a real champ, tonally, but wound up being my stay at home practice rig, which took up too much room. I sold mine, and a fellow TB member got it.

I found a local guy thru CL that traded an older BB750 for my M-2000 straight up.

Stuck it in my Mesa 212 cabinet and let it rip, and rip it did. Now I need more time to play with it.

When I compared the PH610 to the PH1200, I found the 610 to be clearer voiced, deeper sounding, and a little louder... If you've A/B'd your 1200 with your 412, you've probably experienced something similar... The 610 is not quite as mid present as the 412, which itself isn't quite as mid present as the PH215... The PH215 has a voice similar to the old Deisel 215s, except with a little more sparkle up top, and a bit stronger lows - roll off the horn attenuator, and it's all "old school" 215 sound, baby...

You're right about Mesa cabs sitting in a band mix well - also, they can really take anything an amp can dish out, are stone reliable, and can get really loud...

This is interesting. I had the PH112s and they were great. I went to Mesa Hollywood and played a bunch of gear. Liked the 12s w/mpulse, liked the 810 w/ Titan, thought the PH1000 w/ mpulse was just too much bottom for me, really really deep. So I didn't try any more 15s.

Really want to try a ph215 with my Titan based on this comment. I like punchy, barky, growly mids with just the right amount of support down low and attack up top.

I sold my ph112s in favor of aguilars because I really like the gs412, but I'm a little restless tonally an looking for a change.

Will this idea work (M9 Carbine)....

I've never used anything more complicated than plugging straight into a single channel bass amp in the past so I'm thinking about the possibilities with this amp.

What I'm thinking is using the amp's graphic EQ to create a scooped tone to go along with clean guitars and then switching to the voice dial on a mid boosted tone to go along with heavy guitars.

I'd feed the soundman a pre-DI signal so he'd have a constant tone to work with and mic the cab for the mid boosted sound. He could shelve the low end on the mic to keep things separate.

Alternatively, I'd feed the soundman a pre-DI and a use the amp's post-DI. Same deal as above, but it eliminates the need for another mic.

Am I thinking things right?
