MESA/BOOGIE TT-800 Questions

Ampeg in a box in front of a boogie is breaking my brain.

This thread gives me memories of upgrading from a 50w 1x12 to 800w 4x10. I was not ready for the muscle (Eden wt800) and all the knobs.

Did you consider an ampeg, respectfully?

yes, 100% would love an SVT/810 set up. Im only thinking of lightweight rigs to move around. Solid state (i know its a tube pre-amp) and the lightweight makes sense for me. Im assuming you meant the scrambler pedal. I use it all the time on my 150w combo (built in) and would love to have that effect in pedal form.

I would try Mesa with out pedals for first month then try Ampegish pedal and see if you like what pedal adds or maybe don't like what it takes away

With TT800 you have 2 channels so there is the chance you can have your Cake and eat it

To be honest, I don't understand why the footswitch doesn't come with the amp. It's not like the TT800 is a budget amp, from a budget builder. I have tried to get the dedicated mesa one, I was told it's made from "unobtainium ", would be 6 to 12 months wait, and cost $250 aud.. like I said, I just bought the boss fs7..(which I can use as latching or momentary, + change polarity,
so can use with anything )

Yes. I mean if you want an ampeg sound, buy one. Getting a 1x15 to sound like a 8x10 is not the right physics to be replicated.

1x15s throw fundamental bass frequencies across the room. 8x10s throw the punchy harmonic. Feel it in your bowels vs your chest, if you will.

I bet the boogie 15 is amazingly tuned and with great clarity but it won’t hit like 8 10” speakers.

However, the boogie will sound like an amazing head in itself and some great work was done, especially on the boogie channel. I would start by asking our resident expert in their tone stack some advise for producing classic boogie growl.

I believe sounds of the 400+ are hidden in there and you may like it more than an SVT.

Edit: it’s kind of funny for me reading this thread as id like a boogie 400+ in a box and kind of shopping for one now.

I know, im just a pain in the ass about stuff matching haha
The footswitches are available. The customer service guys can help you with this.

The footswitch doesn’t come with the amp because many players simply don’t need it and don’t want to pay for something they won’t use.

Other players use the foot switch features combined with MIDI switching systems via dry contact closure. This is why the pull-down switching system is configured the way it is.

One challenge for AU/NZ (and also EU) customers is the reluctance of dealers to stock the amps, cabinets and accessories, instead relying on ordering products that are pre-sold.

Because of the considerable costs associated with shipping, paperwork management, import registration fees, a multitude of fees, taxes and inland freight. This is all in addition to the VAT, and other fees at the dealer level. I was helping a player recently and was flabbergasted why I saw the fee structure that NZ applies to imported products.

If you message me, I can look into it for you. I can also help you find an in-country alternative footswitch.

Your description of 115/215 versus an 810 appears to be based on stereotypes rather than how the cabinets actually perform. The 115 “throwing bass frequencies across the room” isn’t true and in fact some 115’s (the Subway in particular) are very well balanced across the spectrum. Some 810’s are mid oriented but others are not.

The Boogie channel tone stack eq is very much like the Bass 400/400+ tone stack eq, there is additional mid capabilities compared with the original circuit, this was added based on a thread here on TB regarding what enhancements players would like to see in a class D based Bass 400 platform.

My experience says the same. Try it first, you might like it as is. I put a couple of ampeg-style preamp pedals in front of the TT and felt the TT had a better tone for me than what I got out of pedals.

Regarding compression, the TT has some inherent compression due to the tubes. I do like a compression pedal in front at light settings. I've used an Effectrode LA-1A, BecosFX, and FEA Opti-Fet. All work well, despite being different compressors.

Nobody ever said I was trying to get a 1x15 to sound like a 8x10 lmao. I only mentioned that Ampegs scrambler effect gives off that svt drive I love, and I want to have that with certian songs.

Yeah, Im just gonna go with the Mesa fooswitch. I really dig the brushed aluminium look.

On another note, what do you think of 2 subway 4x10 cabinets? Been kicking that idea as well lol
That’s a popular configuration for our large format touring players.

It would be really neat if there was a subway 8x10 that was light weight, but 2 4x10 would be pretty neat. Say I got 2 guys with marshall jcm half stacks. I could put a 4x10 on either side of the drummer and be "even" with my sound.

decisions decisions decisions lol
We have discussed this before on TB, the cost would be very high because the number of players looking for this is very small. IME, there are not many players looking for a $4k 810. There are other options that I have looked at several times over the past few years, but they haven't gained enough traction to pursue as of now.

That actually makes alot of sense!!

I would recommend starting with the 115, you may find that’s all you need.
This is what I came here to say. The nice thing about two is IMHO sounds much fuller even at lower volumes than one. One is great, two is where the magic happens. I’ve been using two even if I need only one for the “bigger” sound they provide together…. “heft” if you will. Just and over all fuller and wider experience. The 115 really is a marvel, not that the other form factors aren’t…. The 115 is just magical.

I would heartily second this.

I was gonna say, a pair of Subway 115s as opposed to a single 215s. That way, you won’t be sitting on a single 115 that is plenty for a while, but you find you suddenly need another 115 cab for a new gig and hoping and praying that the second one makes it in time for your gig. (It did).

🤣🤣🤣

The pair of Subway 115s has been the most well-rounded bass tones I’ve ever had. Plenty bright (without exaggerated use of the tweeters), plenty punchy, responds well to the high-pass settings on my WD800, and has plenty of lows for large outdoor stages.

I almost always have the tweet turned off and it is bright enough. That driver really handles itself well all around. Great cab.

I gotta say, this has been an interesting thread to follow . I really hope the og posts what he ends up with. I'm keen to hear how it all works for him . TBC..
I would add, a TT pushing 2 SW 4x10s would be capable of crushing spl (and tone)
I get it, my guitarist sometimes uses a 100w Marshal + Quad, AND a Fender Twin (or an ac30) "silly " loud, but definitely a buzz on stage.

I just try to ask all the questions I can, some might be interesting haha.

I will definitely update you guys as I go! Just gotta pay for some frame repair first lol. One day I should take a ride to sweetwater maybe in the spring so I can actually try stuff out. Its only a 3 and a half hour drive from me (perks of living in the Midwest 🤪)

I think to start, im gonna just go with the head and cabinets before I mess around with any pedals. So far I have learned alot so I want to thank ALL OF YOU!

I love that the internet provides access to the collective mind and the ability to geek out long and hard over new purchases. This is just the most recent thread I've been following to gather information on Mesa's bass gear over the past year or so. I'm currently running through a Stomp XL into a QSC K12.2 and while it sounds fine, I think there's just something missing - maybe it's using sims rather than a real amp, but it just doesn't feel like a bass amp. I have been locked in on the 115 for a while now, given how many reviews from experienced bassists refer to it as "The best bass cabinet I've ever heard." I don't think I'll NEED two cabinets, but I do like a stack, so at some point I'll have to decide between a second 115 or the 210 or maybe even a 112. My road rig cab had a 15 and a 12, but I got used to the Redhead's 2 10's as well. I was pretty sure I wanted the TT-800 but have read up on and considered the D-800+ and WD-800 as well. There was a D-350 at a great price that I should have jumped on in the classifieds here, but didn't, which I'm going to take as a sign (yeah, that's the ticket) that I'm to go for one of the 800's. After reading this thread I think I'm finally settled on the TT, mainly because of the two channels. I think I'm going to have to go with the Mesa footswitch too because I'm just a Garanimals kinda guy.
