The point being made is that it’s common somebody will post something negative all over the place with tremendous passion and when folks read it they assume that it’s a “common” problem based on the way it’s presented when in fact it’s really a rare occurrence (especially with the number of amps out there).

I think what makes these claims particularly inaccurate is the fact that no manufacturer reports how many units have been sold. 100 defective amps out of 1,000 would be horrible. 100 out of 100,000 would be OK. This was a strong topic of conversation when Ampeg had problems with the PF500. It was reported that it was one of the largest selling amps at the time so it was hard to guess what the defect rate really was.
Also, not sure how well TB represents the statistical average of all amp purchasers world wide.
Agreed that folks only talk about and remember the bad and rarely the good (or great).

Correct.

Until the structure burns down and the insurance company investigating the incident discover the illegal work, deny the claim, and in some extreme cases, file charges against the (now-un-) insured owner.

Does any manufacturer have a crystal ball with the ability to detect problems that will turn up down the road?

It sure didn’t stop Ford (the Pinto), Yugo (all of them), or Ampex (I really glad I’m not the guy that came up with the 456 binding formula).

Every manufacturer will make mistakes, there’s no such thing as 100% perfect. Every manufacturer that I have been associated with (going back over 40 years) have a history of bending over backwards to solve customer problems and rectify mistakes that have been made.

That said, there’s another side of this coin. There are the few customers who are “serially unreasonable” and attempt to game the system. We have had a couple of instances where an amp has been dropped (with obvious external broken parts and bent sheet metal) multiple times and the player denies the cause and becomes hostile, demanding a new amp under warranty. All this would do is drive up the cost of products to everyone else.

In 50 years of playing, I've experienced plenty of noise and several electrical shocks in clubs because of shoddy electrical work. In consequence, I have been checking for electrical faults before plugging in for several years; the electrical was so bad in a few clubs that I refused to plug in my gear, which meant the band didn't play. I've never been electrocuted, but it's still a serious risk.

Why not just post it here and back up your ridiculous claim. I have had problems with amps too. That doesn't mean that that company is selling people junk amps. Mesa has one of, if not, the best track records.

What’s your criteria got “bad electrical “?
Just a note- a plug in outlet tester is a handy device, but it doesn’t tell the whole story.
