Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread 8

I am considering getting the newer Scout Radiator Design. The 1x15 with the radiator 12 and tweeter. I remember years ago i tried in a store the scout 12. Was really nice at least to what I remember. But what I'm getting from this thread is that the scout is old school type of sound. Am I reading into it wrong. Is it versatile enough to cover any gig? Looking to get a light all around cabinet where I need to set up and exit quickly. With enough power to cover semi loud to low volume gigs. Thinking of using the Thunderfunk 550B with it. Think the 750A isn't needed. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I have used a Scout 1x15 standalone, and with a WA 1x12 combo in the past.
The WA and Scout cabs are tuned fairly deep for their size and will provide a pretty solid old-school tone for sure. They are not super light due to Mesa's "build like a tank" approach to cab design. Due to the tweet and player control thing (adjustable crossover), I find them quite versatile. But, if you need to cover gigs where a lot of upper mids/sizzly high end is needed, the Scout may not be the right all-rounder you are seeking .. again IMO/IME.

That being said, aside from the larger form factor, the 1x15 does handle more power on its own than the 1x12, and will provide a decent one cab solution for low/medium powered gig requirements.

You will have to see if anyone has used the TF amps to drive these cabs as I have not.

Well, after reading EVERYTHING here on TB, and after much deliberation, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a brand new WA head direct from the good folks at Mesa Boogie. i'll be dropping into a beautiful cream bronco 12"/8ohm Scout combo cab that I just purchased from a fellow TBer. I'll also be adding a matching 12' extension cab. To say I am psyched is an understatement!

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has posted here - your knowledge and advice have been invaluable. Cheers!

Ooh those are nice looking cabs - reasonably priced too. How would you say they compare to the scout and/or powerhouse?

I've never played a powerhouse. The Baer has a nice, full low-end as does the Scout, but with more presence and punch in the mids and highs.

Well, the headcase is here and the Walkabout is in there. Fits perfectly on top of the Scout Extension 15 cab. I'll try to take something better than this terrible cell phone pic this weekend.

With a P-Bass, it's all that and some sliced cheese on the side.

Mesa Walkabout head. It's the best little amp ever made. Period.

Got a chance to sit around today with it for about 45 minutes with a good bass playing friend of mine (he came by to borrow a pedal). We rotated a bunch of my basses through: Sadowsky NYC PJ, Sadowsky Metro Will Lee, Lull T4, Spector NS4 and Lakland Hollowbody w/ flats. Quite honestly, it sounded great with all of them. I love the character that this 15 from Mesa has. I've never liked any other 15's I've had before, but this one is great!. That T4 through it is quite possibly the perfect tone to my ears. The Hollowbody w/ flats replaces that slice of cheese with a big serving of greasy, cheezy fries!

I've owned more amps than I care to admit. I can't see a scenario where I'd sell it. It really is that good.

That's a killer rig you've got, in both the sonic and esthetic senses.

Looking forward to doing some amateur, bedroom recording with my WA. My 19 yr-old nephew recorded a few originals (singer songwriter stuff). He plays guitar and keys, sang (with his sister backing him), programmed the drums, but was disappointed in his basslines and asked me to have a go at it. It will give me an excuse to learn how to do it and should be fun. Any tips on going from the DI into garage band would be appreciated, since I'm a complete noob to this.
