I've never found a problem with a 5 string, tho I may not have played an open B much....
It is tuned fairly low, but it is a single 12" so has its limitations.
2 will give u more volume, but no lower freqs.
I've used my 12"Scout combo many times with passive & active 5'ers & always been pleased with it.

Handles the low B no problem at moderate volumes. I've done quite a few gigs without PA support with this rig in medium sized full clubs. If I feel I need to mic more than just the Kick drum I'll use the DI on the amp because the 2 12's will run out of gas and start to sound compressed.

I've used my Walkabout with 2 12"s with no PA support & as long as u ain't in too big a room, too loud a band etc you'll be cool.
I play in an 8 piece funk band (3 horns, gtr, keys, drums, 5 voc) & I'd want FOH PA support in all but a small room.
I can ALMOST get by with just the WA Scout 12"combo at rehearsal, but I'm pushing it-I've heard it complain, & I don't like to hear my baby cry. So I usually take an ext 12" to go with.
Live, even with an ext 12"cab I'll be running at the Walkabouts max volume, after which it just gets more overdriven & compressed.We do get loud tho- sometimes our heavy hitting drummer gets drowned...
The Walkabout WILL run happily at 2 or 2. 67 ohms (even tho Mesa don't state it, many TB'ers do so & have done for yrs-me included) & @ about 500w @ 2 ohms!
So you can run more cabs & it gets VERY loud with 4 x 12's at 2 ohms.

I found a tight fitting case for my WA-head.
It's originally a toolbox/briefcase, but the interior is removable and now it fits like a glove. Dirt cheap too!

Unfortunately no. I bought it in a cheap-shop in Sweden but it's probably made somewhere in Asia. I think it's available all over the world but I can't find a brand name (or any other markings either) on it.

Gig report: First gig with the WA 2x12 Scout stack last night and it was surely an improvement over the single scout combo - louder and with more dynamics. I think that it was also a bit tighter sounding because I put in Tung-Sol preamp tubes in.

There was no P.A. support but I could always hear myself no matter how loud the band got (gain at 12:00/12:30, master between 9:00 to 11:00). Still, at times I wished for just a bit more headroom - which is now making me curious about scout 15 extensions or a pair of super 12s.

All versions sound essentially the same. The newer versions have toggle switches for active/passive and FX bypass. Newer cabs have a "player control network knob" which is a variable tweet xover---not a big deal IME. Prices vary. Assuming VG+ condition, a very recent black headed model might go for 900-1100, a more recent silver/blk stencil model maybe 8 or 9 hundy and a silver/brown stencil headed version 7-8 hundy.

As far as an extension cab goes are there any drawbacks in using a cab with the head removed as apposed to the dedicated extension cab? Other than the fact that the true extension cabs are hard to come by. Used anyways.

Can the WA drive an Ampeg 810 to a moderate level?

i played it through a fridge recently and it had gobs of power. i thought it was too muddy but that was obviously the cab. not for me.
it seems that coneage is the key to unlock the headroom of the wonderful WA

Yep. Couple of 15's gets it done for pretty much any gig I can throw at it. They don't weigh much so I take 'em both even when I really don't need to. They just look so stinkin' cool stacked up! Mine are the Wine Lizard ones I bought from fellow TBer a while back.

True - I play mine through a 412 and feel it's plenty for any of the gigs I do. I push the gain, but don't really ever get it past noon, even on relatively loud gigs

I've always said, it's a good 300w
Pair it with an 810 & it's about the same "loudness" as an SVT.
Totally different tonally but.
Thru my NV412 it's plenny loud!
