Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Well it really sucks that you can expect this from their newer products...

This was a weakness/defect unique to the blackface Walkabout and Carbines, all of which are now discontinued. I agree it's disappointing, but it's not a deal-breaker for me, and it looks to me as though the new Subways will not suffer the same "premature baldness" :-)

There were only a small number of faceplates (several models) that suffered from screen print ink that weakly cross linked when cured. This affected long term adhesion.

You can contact customer service to see if a replacement faceplate may be available for your amp.

Thanks agedhorse for reply but Mesa dealer here in Italy is embarrassing, when I needed the Walkabout Gigbag they told me about 24 weeks of waiting...

I had an m6 Carbine Head years ago and now I also have an m6 212 combo ... no problems at all.
I think the Walkabout is the best amp I have, even without letters ;)

get up on the wrong side of the bed or something ?

LOL :)
I do agree with Lomo though. While not a deal breaker it would be disappointing to buy one of these and have the lettering come off like that. You expect more than that out of higher priced equipment. And I really hate to criticize Mesa as they're one of my favorite amps, hardly anything I don't like about them.

Reassurance from agedhorse is good too.

yeah, I get it. Seems like it happened to a few of the newest black face units, and Mesa is so good about CS and making things right that I'm sure they would take care of owners.

could have been way worse, he could have bought any number of the early rev Ampeg PF500's or SVT7Pro's and had them pop on first power up :smug:

Which is why I suggested contacting the service center in his country, as they are the ones who must handle things like this in their region. It's been quite a few years, but when the problem was discovered it was corrected and those owners were indeed taken care of. They just have to go through the right channels.

I'm considering posting my 4ohm Scout 15" combo cab (with the newer Tweeter control network) for sale soon if anyone is looking. SoCal folks especially! In great condition and comes with the cover. Also the built-in speaker cable was changed to a locking 1/4" jack, which makes it much more convenient for stacking or using other amps with it... (Does not come with the amp!)

Once again I'm missing the sweet juicy tone of the Walkabout. :( The Epifani I got to replace that WA has plenty of power but very bland tone.
hey Mr Kick, there are plenty used WA's available and Mesa may still have some new units for sale.
Great amp for sure. Even when I picked up a new amp (Demeter) I knew I was not going to unload my Walkabout.
That sucker is staying in my amp line up forever.

I know, I've owned five WA's over the years, but eventually they run out of steam for me and I sell it off. I just wish it had a hundred more watts to be useful without doubt at every club I play (my current amp @400w has no problem unlike my WA's).
+1 (although I have only owned one - still own it).
this is exactly why I also have a Demeter VTBP-M-800DJ on hand.
but the WA does still go out to gigs where there is FOH support for bass or into the studio when the client is interested in something other than just a house DI.
