Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

I'm sure there will be something new coming down the pipe. Probably a class d with a tube front end.

The loose damping of the walkabout seems to be a love or hate thing. Great with sealed cabs, not so much with ported. That's why you read about so many using a hp filter with the wa.

Sad to hear that Mesa discontinued the WalkAbout. I have a 12" combo and a Scout 12" ext. cab. I am getting a rattly type of distortion. Thought is was with both. Turns out it's the ext. cab. Time for a new speaker. Mesa no longer sells a 4 ohm Scout driver. Their recommendation is the ceramic Powerhouse 12. My other option is to replace them both with the 8 ohm Scout driver that they still sell. Not entirely out of the question since my total load would be 4 ohm instead of 2. My question is that the driver is sealed so tightly that I am apprehensive to pry it out. Any tips on how to remove it without damaging the mounting ring or the baffle board?

Why is hpf only useful for d class?
I wouldn't presume a new walkabout would be d class as part of its mojo is mosfets and toroidal power supply.
Frankly I wouldn't care if it were Carbine sized if it did the right things.

Unfortunately the usual WA technology has become non viable for mesa as well as other manufacturers.
Producing smps class D amps is porobably far more rewarding in many ways I suspect.
Please notice that I'm hardly trying to explain to myself that we have to forget traditional amps and surrender....but I failed

Get it reconed
No reason to get a whole new driver

Gently work a flat blade screwdriver around to get the driver to separate from its foam gasket

I don't believe transformer based amplification is a dead thing.

IDK, I have long felt that the Walkabout paired with a (ported) Berg CN212 is a nearly perfect combination ... of course IMO/IME and YMMV ;)

In my case the HDN212 is that solution.

Although, last weekend was the first time, I would have liked more headroom with my WA: open air with a very loud drummer and too small a PA :(

I ran a WA + CN212 for a time as well. Excellent combination. The slightly tighter low end (for a ported cab) along with its present upper mids really complimented the WA. Wouldn't surprise me if the "old" AE410 was another great combo.
WA + Berg CN212 is one of the best sounding combinations I've ever heard. I use that combination often and it's everything I like about the WA Scout 112 with a lot more volume and less uncontrolled low end blooming.

Used my Wa with a barefaced bb2 open air with no PA. The system was a bit pushed, i think, but it sounded brilliant.
I did not complain about lows being loose, at all. Even if someone wanted to have less bottom just use a good eq, and I had one of the best ones, the WA one. Cut a smidge using the bass knob, pushed a bit the 80-100 hz and the tone in my had was there, pure and addicting.
