Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Yes I think that's a more reasonable number. So I was going to trade a Gibson Les Paul Junior for the RF WA and that was kind of a lop sided trade. So the guy wanted me to take his Eden 210xlt too. I told him I didn't need it but I would offer him a $250.00 dollar pedal for it. His reply was that just wasn't a good deal for him. The guitar is worth $750.00 all day long. Anyway that was the rub after that comment I told him I would hold off on all of it then he became furious. I did offer him the guitar for the head but when he came back with that response it just flipped a switch inside me. He was willing for me to bend over backwards but he was not willing to do the same. He was interested in the pedal too but wanted some cash. I just couldn't make it work in my head at that point.
some people just arn't worth the effort.

I've just finished up 12 road dates with a low volume acoustic type gig .. I used my WA combo and my Hofner bass.. The WA is still my all time favorite gooey, thick, tone machine. Nothing sounds like it or feels like it in a mix

I'm buying an old WA without mods.
Since I live in Italy I was wondering if there is a schematics of the input and the effect loop mods available.
And also the resistor fan mod.
Maybe @agedhorse can chime in.
Thanks !
You will need to go through the distributor in your country for this. Each distributor handles this according to the agreements and laws in each region (which I know little about).

No doubt good mods. . But I've owned 2 WA's and both functioned perfectly with out the mods . I wouldn't worry about it myself. Up to you, of course. But I just cleaned the fx loop jacks every so often. .. and the input is ... imo.. fine without that switch, I only ever plug into the unpadded one anyway.
Congrats on yr WA. ENJOY!

Brought my walkabout to the studio last night and hooked it up with a Ampeg 810. WOW.

Seriously contemplating selling my D800 and just using the Walkabout for all gigs. It gets dirty a little too easily but it doesn't bother me in the mix.

Had a D800 myself; really a great amp! But I sold it and bought a Walkabout Scout 15, and an extra Scout 15 cab. No regrets, just smiles :-)

I hear you. I use either a D800 or WA most often with a Bergantino 610 with similar WOWs in all caps. I haven't considered selling the D800 yet, partly because I'm afraid I might run out of headroom with the WA at some point. That hasn't happened yet but I do like the squished dirty front end of the WA gain at 1:00+ so I get all the volume out of it that I can.

I have used a Walkabout + Berg 610 for some pretty loud shows, but there is definitely a point in the Gain/Master settings where you are just adding more compression and saturation rather than additional volume. I used to use that rig near it’s max in one group on a regular basis and the compression from the settings I needed to use made my slightly microphonic P-bass into a full-on feedback-prone microphone if I pointed in the wrong way. It sounded phenomenal though!

I started with just a little saturation from the pre, 1 o clock with a jazz bass, but ended up turning the gain knob at 2 to 3 o clock. By itself, it is dirty, but in a mix it is simply glorious, with an exposed, harmonic rich tone that supports and cuts. Love it. And, by the way, I don’t play super heavy stuff.
I’m just finishing recording my new album and played all the tracks with the WA, best tone in the world.
Raising the gain produced a favourable side effect. Adding those harmonics in spades made kess necessary to cut the deep bass,or sub bass, at last when tracking, so now I use no attenuation in that region...well the mixing tech usually cuts sub bass, but even this way the sound is meatier.
