Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Pt. Tres

Longtine lurker, sporadic poster.

So I went and got all crazy after reading pretty much all three episodes of the Walkabout threads and bought Buffordbass's (thanks Terry!) blue 8 Ohm WA scout combo and I'm diggin' the crap out of it.

I sold my 400+ about a year or so ago because I just have not been gigging and I was getting tired of having the gain at 2 and still frightening the children (next door).

Since, I've been playing through a Eden 550 and while it is no slouch, I really missed the 400+ tone. Really am pleased with the sounds coming out of the blue box and paired with my old 115 diesel, oh my!!! The tone made me so mesa crazy I have a ph112 and ph210 on the way from a TBer. Super exited, but now, super broke!!!! :bassist:

I only discovered Mesa gear last November and have become a little obsessed. I started with a used Big Block 750 head and paired it with a Powerhouse412 cab. Then bought a pair of matching PH115 cabs and Carbine M9. Finally a Walkabout and it is hands down, the warmest, loudest, sweetest little combo I have ever heard.

Anybody know where I can get my hands on a new, rackmountable WA? I've looked everywhere I can think of but came up empty.

Mesa sez I can order one from them and wait 8-12 weeks for it. I'm hoping I can find one in stock somewhere before it comes to that.

THANKS!

Gelb Music has stock (FYI I'm not affiliated with them... but bought mine there). Super people to deal with. Here's a link:

Digging the hell out of my WA! It's a backup to my Reeves 225, and that is a tough act to follow ;-)

try guitar center

chef -

'funny' story about that: i was at one of the many local GC stores here last weekend and was happy to find a 'new' scout 112. plugged in the nearest fender to me and plucked a few notes. my initial thought was 'THAT can't be right?!?!'. a sales guy happened to be standing nearby. i pointed to the amp, he picked it up and took it away. dunno how long it had been on the floor, but it was already trashed. i'd like to avoid involving GC in this purchase, if at all possible.

Thanks for that. Checked the link you provided. They do have the Scout in stock, but not listing the head solo. Their contact info shows everything but an email address. I can get Scouts, no problem (Bass Central, Sweetwater). I really just want the bare head (rackmount version). Will use with the cabs I currently have (Yamaha BB110 x2) until I can score a couple PH112s or similar. Thanks, Bro'...

I just bought mine ~2 weeks ago, and they had more than one. The guy I dealt with is Mike Craig. Here's his email:

Again... I don't have a horse in this race!

get the mesa headcase too, if you order new.

any of those vendors might be willing to separate if you ask nice.
cash in hand can be persuasive.

and-just me here-i'd try asking for a discount on new old stock brushed aluminum models vs brand new, black faced items.

Chef... is the pre valve on the left if you're facing the front of the amp (closer to the side)? I can find no markings indicating the pre or driver valves. Thanks

Yes. The preamp tube is also located closer to the faceplate, and the driver tube is located closer to the output section.

Tom.

some good advice, chef - thanks!

there's no rush on finding one of these as i'm really just GASSING for a new amp. hell, i don't even use the one i have much (yammie bbt500h). GAS is GAS and i don't argue with it, i just succumb to it.

decided this time not to buy more of the off-the-shelf fender/peavey/yamaha/etc/etc stuff i usually buy and get something *nice*.

first thoughts were mesa and eden (wt550), but i'm a bit eden shy, given their recent changes in ownership/manufacturing that i read about in my research.

customer service is as important to me as the gear. i hope mesa measures up in that regard as well.
