mine was an older mesa diesel 115, even further "complicated" by the fact it was loaded with a new em 3015.

Can someone with a WA headcase please tell me the exact distance (from front to back) between the feet on the headcase? Thanks.
Bottom line is if you want louder than 2 12s will give you with the Walkabout, either pull the head and use a larger cab (410 or whatever) at 4 Ohms or, if you have the 12 combo, change your combo speaker to 8 Ohms (about 150 from Mesa direct or a dealer-a 10 minute mod doable by anyone with a screwdriver) and get a larger 4 \ohm ext cab to put under it. Eg an 8 Ohm 12 combo with a 4 Ohm 212 under it will spread the power pretty evenly across the 3 drivers and give much more cone area and volume than a pair of 12s. IME the WA can easily handle the 2.7 Ohm load of this setup.
And here's my guess about my external cab ohm question (maybe somebody can tell me if I'm on the right track):
My Scout has a 4 Ohm speaker. I have an external 12 that's 8 Ohms. When I hook it up, it doesn't make as much diff as I expected. I'm guessing this is because the external is producing about half the sound of the Scout's internal (actually less because it's not as fine a speaker cabinet). So there's a diff, but not a big one.
If I were to put an 8 Ohm speaker into the Scout, then the two cabs would each carry half the load (cab quality differences aside). The Scout's internal would be quieter, so I'd wind up increasing the master gain to get the same volume. But my sound would be cleaner because the Scout's speaker isn't having to work so hard.
Moving on from that, if I replace the ext.12 with an ext.15 (also 8 Ohms), I'd add more volume because the 15 moves more air. And I'd get a bassier sound (maybe boomy to some ears) at the same time (more square inches moving more air).
And if I keep the 4 Ohm in the Scout, and add a 4 Ohm external, I'll get good results too (although I'm into the "Mesa says don't do it" zone).
So far so good? If so, then here's the latest question:
Will the amp sound different through the two 4 Ohm speakers instead of the 8 Ohms? Will its added power also have an "I'm workin' pretty hard here, boss" kind of sound to it?
That's a decent plan!
I, personally, found the Scout 15 "a little blubbery" for me, (and thus my choice to go with the diesel, which is ported/tuned higher), but if it meets your tone goals, that's a fine way to go!
With my 4 ohm combo...if I add another 4 ohm, cab...am I looking at a 50% db increase?
