Nice! Those HT110's are one of the best sounding cabs I have heard, and they can move a lot more air than you might expect. Great rig! Hope the rest of the gig went well.

Yea--- happy to report that rig filled a big room... It was also nice to dig into my bass for solos, and experience some subtle overdrive. Really nice matchup.
Been a while since I've used mine;
I've been MB-Fusion-ing, and M9-ing...
I did two jobs on double bass this week for the first time in a while, one where I doubled.
I *love* the Walkabout for double bass; but on the doubling gig was a bit surprised to find that I was wanting either of my other heads back. The Walkabout-while still totally awesome-is "just a little soft" compared to the other two I've been using...
Don't get me wrong; still love it, but it is what it is; which is neither of the other...if you follow that

The quickness of response from my Mesa M Series head is seductive. I too love the Walkabout, but it's hard to go back to slow and more tubey once I got used to tighter, punchier low end.

I just swapped out the Walkabout OEM fan for a Silenx Pro Series. This fan is rated at 32 CFM @ 14 dBA; so just a tad less air movement than the OEM (rated at 36.5 CFM @ 31 dBA). This new fan is scary quiet, which was the goal of course and seems to move air just fine...but I'm a bit taken aback by all the quiet...
Anyone see any problem with this? Do any of you engineering types think that wicked noisy OEM fan is really necessary?

Just an FYI but my WA fan is very quiet; next time the lid is off I'll have to check and make sure it's an original. Have yet to read that these amps run hot but there is something to be said for replacing parts with the same specs.

Aaand the WA Scout makes the most deliciously smooth sounding jazz guitar amp. (Eastman archtop with floating pickup.) I know, it's off topic to mention guitars, but couldn't resist! 
You're not the first one to have mentioned that, and while I'm not a guitarist, I could totally see that working out well.
Well people i am now a walkabout owner. 
I bought the kaisers amp. I just got it today but i am already impressed. Running it through my berg 610 with a stingray 5 sounds reminiscent of my svt in the clean zone but with less heft and more clarity. This is a very nice sounding amp! It also sounds nice with my upright. The para mids are pretty versatile.

Congrats! The Walkabout definitely appeals to some tube amp lovers (like me) as a lightweight alternative/backup/etc.Well people i am now a walkabout owner.
Thanks! Yeah it definitely does. Whats nice is that it seems like it doesnt have to have the tube-ish sound. It can be very clean. With something like an svt the inherent tone is inescapable. Whats not nice is that the fan is almost as loud as the svt. Time for an upgrade!

I run input gain at noon, bass flat, passive mids at 10 oclock, para bass at 11 oclock-ish, trimming 50-60hz, para mids trimmed a bit a 400-ish, para treble flat, shelving treble at 10 oclock; using an LDS 2x8_5" mid...for bigger gigs, I'll stack another one on top for a line array 4x8.

Yeah there are a couple of good options - Silenex as already mentioned - and I used a Noctua NF8.
Hey thanks chef! I will give that a try next time i plug in my db. What pickup are using? Im running an underwood.
Are they both about the same loudness?
So whats the concensus on the tubes? Looks like the original mesas are in it still. Im primarily concerned with lowering noise levels as much as possible.
think so. Specs are around. I havent heard the Silenex but Noctua is next to dead silent.... which I imagine is the same as the Silenex. Don't get too carried away with db numbers on them I think they're actually fudged a bit for the PC modder crowd who make choices on specs to 27 decimal places. Suffice it to say - I had my WA in a sound booth last week and we were not able to hear the Noctua with condenser mics

I noticed my WA had a different configuration from an old post by vin*tone who displayed his fan mod. Here's comparison pics:

It looks like the newer ones actually have completely different driver output boards. Mine has 6 power transistors and one larger more vented heatsink over the older style which has 8 output transistors and two smaller heatsinks. Given the awesome flow of the stock fan I'd say the newer heatsink is actually better for heat dissipation however I'm not sure if the different output transistors are better, worse, or even audibly different. What do you guys think? Anyone know why this change took place? From the labeling seen here on my driver board I'd say the change happened in 2005.
