Who is the builder of that WAAAAY COOL groove machine? Very cool. Norstrand PU in the bridge? I don't see a third Pot, Vol and Vol? Or Vol / Tone, always blended? Color me confused. Sorry for the derail ..but you started it! :hiding:

They're pretty different.
The MB-F is much more like the M9 than the Walkabout.

In an Italian accent:

So I got to bust out the ol' Walkabout stack for a gig this past Monday... as expected, it kicked many butts. Since I bought the rig in October my band has been mostly holed up in the studio, this was only my 3rd show using it... but I really am falling in love with this amp.

Ran into a fellow bassist in the audience... we played a show together last summer, and he used my Ashdown ABM 500 + sealed 610 rig. While he loved the rig at the time, he was really impressed how much better the Mesa sounded, having heard me play through both, and getting to spend some time firsthand with the Ashdown. The fact that he's a pretty renowned engineer sure made his compliment feel that much better ;-)

Nah, I was looking for something similar -- transparent low-gain OD pedal that doesn't lose lows, ideally with a clean blend -- got a bunch of recommendations on here, and spent an afternoon A/B'ing pedals at a local shop. The two I liked best were the Pork Loin and the Sparkle Drive. Wound up getting the Sparkle Drive because I found a good price on a used one, but if money were no object I probably would have gone for the Pork Loin.

Oddly enough, a lot of folks recommended the Xotic Bass BB... I listened to a few clips and youtube vidz and wasn't convinced, so I tried it in the store... and absolutely hated it. It's funny how different tastes can be when it comes to overdrive and distortion. Glad you're liking the Pork Loin!

my walkabout scout has a large "hissing" sound when i turn it on connected to my bass guitar.. It does not make this noise when i turn the amp on by itself..

i found that this sound is directly related to the "treble" for some reason... On my walkabout when i lower the treble a bit it helps..

But the thing that helped the most.. was on the back bottom side of the AMP the knob for "highs" like the big knob u turn.. I turned it down to the lowest settings and it greatly helped the "hissing" problem i was having..

What could this be? is it the output from my bass? its not the amp i hope considering it doesnt do this when i just turn the amp alone ...


please help

The amp/speakers generally just amplify whatever's going into them. Sounds like maybe your bass has something going on, but if you calm it down with the HF attenuator on the back of the cab, it's alright. Right? The WA Scout can do a little "sizzle" on top, if you want it to, but sounds like more than that here.

yeah the HF attent toned down completely fixed the problem...

Generally Speaking if the problem only occurs when the bass is pluged it must be the bass..

with the amp on itself i dont hear it

While I agree with the above, IMO/IME the WA is not the quietest amp as far as quiet high end boosting. An equaly bright and consistent tone with other amps, is not as hissy as the WA through my Berg with the attenuator at less than 1/2.

Hey, going back to my question. I talked to the guy who is selling WA and he says that when gain is set above 12 o'clock, some kind of hum is present. The tech said that there is nothing wrong with the amp and it probably lies in its construction. Has anyone noticed hum on higher gain settings?

Just checked on mine and with master a 12 o'clock getting the gain past 12 gets noisy but not that much.
Push the gain past 2 or 3 o'clock and its humming a lot!
It never bothered me and this is my main amp!

I would say dont worry about it, its normal.

(with the master lower its not as obvious so unless your planning on using it balls out all the time with gain at 3 and master past 12 it should really not be an issue!
With "normal" settings like 11 12 on gain and 10 11 on master, which is already plenty loud for what i use it for i never had noticed the hum before trying to get it for you!)

Mine is very quiet with gain (and EQ's) at 12:00; have never run the master past 11:00

Don't think it makes much more power past that point anyway; could the hum be caused by low freq tone controls boosted way high?
Perhaps just a tube going south
