Mesa D-800 vs Genzler Magellan 800

Several months have passed and My Genzler gear continues to amaze. I have since upgraded to the newer BA210-3 Arrays (2 of them) and they are even better for me that the 12-3 arrays was. This gear has changed the game for me and I no longer gas for other Bass amp needs. I got to play my first gig with just one of the 210 arrays and it blowed me away the punch, clarity, and volume it puts out. I could see 1 easily doing 90% of my gigs. Simply professional grade equipment all around.
kind of at an impasse right now, i know i love the dark mesa sound with my vintage L2000, but it might be nice to change things up a little after using my mesa d180 for the last six years, the genzier sounds great, but it's not the sound i'm familiar with

I know it's kind of an old thread, but my question is about the Mesa. How much do the little switches on the front and back protrude? I have a Mesa Maverick which has the same style switches on it, and I've snapped a few of them off because of how they're situated. Are they recessed far enough so that they are out of harms way, or do they get knocked around in the gigbag?
I'd estimate ~ 1/4" to 3/8" out from the front and rear surfaces. I transport my D800 in a hard shell, foam lined case I got on ebay. I just don't really trust myself with only the gig bag. So far no issues, but I know what you mean about the fear of snapping those little buggers off.

I could just be overthinking it, but that just seems like a design issue for me. How do you like the Mesa with the Rick? My main bass is a 4003 and I'm going for more vintage sounds.
Absolutely love it! One of my favorite tones is the Ric played with a pick. This is about the closest to my settings...
... with a little more input, a little less voicing and bass.
I did the stereo thing with the 4003 at home a few times with 1 going to the Mesa as shown and the other going through an Orange Terror. Fun but too much stuff to schlep to a gig for me. Most times at gigs I just take the Subway head and DI into the FOH to avoid carrying a cab. Everyone else in the band does the same so it keeps setup more simple. Which, by the way, if you're on the fence, the quality of the DI on that Subway is top-notch.
Sorry for the newb question, but how did you have the three cabs connected to each other and the amp and what was the total impedance? I know the math, but I can't really figure out what you had going on with three 8-Ohm cabs, because in parallel they'd have been 21.33-Ohms, right? Even if you chained two to one output, which would be 2.67Ohms, and then one on the other output, the overall circuit is still 3 in parallel, right?

I switched To the 2.67 impedance and daisy chained the 3rd cabinet to the 2nd. Absolutely massive volume and tone.

I have been looking for something to replace a Demeter Minnie 800D in a Monique/Minnie setup.
I´m circling in on the Genzler Magellan 800. The descriptions of it both sound wise and tech wise is appealing. I also like that all connections except for the bass input is on the back of the amp, and that it is a standalone unit and can be used without my Monique preamp.
Have anyone used the Magellan as a power amp with a Jule Amps Monique preamp?
Is the aux in or the FX return the best place to plug an ext pre?
Will the Magellan´s input and preamp be muted with an ext. preamp in the FX return, or can I use both ext. pre and Magellan´s input giving me a two-channel setup?
I guess the Aux in will give me that 2-channel option but I got the impression that the aux in was made for ext. MP3 players, phones, computers etc...

I just emailed Genzler with that question, and Jeff got back to me within an hour. He said the FX receiving jack also serves as a "power amp access point". I don't think it will mute the amp's main input, but I also don't think it sends to the direct out on the Magellan. I'm doing this tonight at a gig (slab to the main input, upright through a pre into the FX input), so I'll report back.
I've owned 2 Mesa 800 and 2 Mesa D800+ and have owned both the Genzler 800 and 350 and for me the easy choice for ease of use, tone, and what seems like a better build is Genzler. Best Bass rig gear along with the Genzler Arrays. You can't find a better bass rig.
How did you find the tone of the BA210-3 vs the 12-3 array that it worked better for the sound you were after? I'm curious about the BA410-3 and haven't heard much about them.
The 210 is punchier, louder, and more powerful at 500watts and only 2 pounds more. The 12-3 is 350watts and and amazing in its own right but the 210 does so much more for only the 2 pounds weight difference and honestly handled everything I needed with only one cab.

Just for reference, The BA410-3 cabs have not been released yet but will start shipping around the 3rd week of April.
Last night I used my Magellan 800 for a doubling gig, plugged my electric into the main input, and plugged my upright through a Grace Designs BiX preamp into the aux in. Jeff had recommended using the FX receiving jack, though that appeared to mute the Magellan's preamp circuit, so I went with the Aux in. It was a lower level through the Aux in, but I still had plenty of stage volume, and was also sending separate lines from the BiX and the Magellan. It seemed to work fine, though I might experiment some more. I really love the Magellan, and last night made me confidant it's a keeper!
Thanks for the report! I was afraid that the FX return would mute the Magellan´s preamp circuit. The Monique´s line out level can be set pretty hot, so I might pull it off using the AUX in.
I´m selling my Demeter Minnie now. I will probably leave the Monique more in my home studio, and take just the Magellan out to gigs. If I get a fair price for the Minnie, I will probably have a Genzler pretty soon.
