so, i've been enjoying my carbine immensely,
great tones in the studio, solid performance.
only one problem, if there can be such a problem...
could it be- this amp is too loud? say it isn't so!
my problem...
setting the pre to a reasonable/ optimal level, between noon and 1 (passive j bass, passive old hagstrom),
i barely bring up the master and it is instant massive gain...
the taper is so extremely minute, i barely give it anything and it could be too much for certain situations. i tried turning down the pre, but didn't like the results. in the studio we were actually considering a power brake or hot plate. the carbine was louder than my walkabout cranked, with the master just barely on (8am, a touch above off)pots are clean, running a 4 ohm berg nv cab.
my experience so far with mesa ss power section controls is heavy gain in the 1st quarter turn... my walkabout acted the same.
no complaints on the sound, the sucker just leaps out of the gate
harder than anything i've had yet.... loudest amp per pound i've ever used. i don't think it's any type of defect, it ran effortlessly for 2 10 hour studio sessions and a long, loud jam where i actually pushed the master to 10am and watched stuff fall off the walls and jaws drop.
just trying to find out if this is the normal master taper for these,
anyone have this type of experience/ any thoughts?

if yer handy with a soldergun, you could replace the master volume with a different taper...

but, your experience mirrors many of ours here:
input gain set for "good color and saturation" at about 1 oclock=master at 8 or 9 oclock=really really loud.

The JO was . I had the volume at about 8:00 to 8:30 and it was loud. With the bergs I go around 9:00, but they have less low end.

my 1260 sounds amazing with it in my room. can't wait to gig with it

did one gig with the carbine and sch. 1515L+ and was blown away

i've got a subway rocket, which is a 20w guitar combo amp with a 10" speaker. i bought it to have a nice "small" amp for my apartment. of course, it went from zero to ZOMFG!!! with the tap of the master. i took it to my local mesa shop and they "fixed" it by replacing the pot with a smoother taper one.

i've noticed the same thing with this beast - crank the pre-gain to get some warmth and compression and you go into instant skull-crack volume if you look at the master funny. have a qualified tech replace/rewire, or develop a smooth touch and tell your band mates to untangle their skirts

i thought the same thing... at first. the 212 cab stuck in my head and i went back a week or two later and bought one. i love it now, particularly with the M6. i'm not saying it is for everyone, but i am saying you might change your mind.

I do still have to play around with it and make sure the tweeter is OFF until I make up my mind. (hate tweeters..)

Can someone please tell me the distance (width) between the feet on the Mesa headcase (not the head itself) that fits the M6? I'm wondering how wide a cab it needs to sit on top of properly. I'd like to know if it'll sit on top of a Scout 15" (only 17.5" wide). I don't mind if the sides of the head overhang a bit.

sorry, mines in an skb...
the feet on the skb are approx 13.5" apart, measured outside to outside.
might be similar, might not.

Thx Chef. Looks to me from the pics as though the case feet are pretty much where the little rubber ones on the head itself are, but I'd like to know for sure. I'll call Mesa, but since they phone back, it's liklely to be 3 days of phone tag.

i tried to get the mesa site to load to look at pics, but, it ain't going for me right now.
if you can get it to load, you might be able to get a good idea from pics.
the same head case should be used to any of the 19" rack mount stuff.
