Mesa M6 Carbine Mega-Thread Pt Deux

I just bought a gently used one. I think that it was built around 8 months ago. The seller never turned in the warrenty card but he didn't have the receipt. After reading the how the transferable warrenty works it looks like I might be screwed if the amp fails. This is kinda distressing.

Otherwise I am loving the amp. It sounds great into a pair of Bergantino HT112's.
Mesa typically does not play hardball on warranty policy. I would bet you'd be fine if you needed it.

Not my experience. Total, PIA with a Mesa cab that I bought used and the owner didn't have the receipt. Ended up, he bought it at a GC and I called GC to get teh receipt, but they wouldn't give it directly to me. Had to back to the original owner, then I had to fax it to Mesa. THey had the serial number and new it was registered to the guy I bought it from. What more do you need than that IMO. GK service on the MB2500 is way better than my experience with Mesa. GK-No questions asked-we'll make it right type vibe, Mesa chip oin shoulder vibe, want to make sure no one is trying to slip one past us type feeling. All IMO, but I have never being satisfied with Mesa CS. Products yes but CS always leaves some to be desired for me. Way to get me started Vic.

This is not good news.:rollno:

I've been lucky with most of my equipment for years. So I guess I need to keep my fingers crossed. Maybe GC can help but probably not. I'm not counting on that but I will see what they will do. The amp is working out great now other than the racking issue in the ProTec 3-space bag which is aggrevating.

Wow, that sucks!

Thing is, I wonder if it might be different if the case is one where a product kinda' failed DOA style, and/or if it's something that's happened on other amps and they just want to get it squashed. I don't know the circumstances on the cab, but I think those are a lot more gray area since I think a lot of companies might be more tempted to suspect the users blew them and are trying to get free replacements for something they did wrong. Not sayin' that's your sitch, but just wondering if cabs might be handled a bit differently.

Anyway, FWIW.

Apologies if this has been asked already: I'm wondering if anyone has had any cause to remove the head from a Mesa M6 Carbine combo and if there were any challenges.

I'm asking because I'm thinking about buying one but would like the option to remove it in case I ever want to throw it in a rack and pair it with another cab. I used to do this with an old Carvin PB300 and it worked out really well.

I have done it many times. Only takes a couple of minutes and presents no problems at all. The combo sounds great but can be a little bulky. If I have a gig that are farther away, I prefer to drive my Ford Focus and the Carbine combo barely fits.

I've pulled the head and used it with an Epi 310 and a Carvin 410. Great results with both.

This has been my experience... one time I bought a used M-Pulse Venture that was a few years past warranty, that was snap, crackling and popping. I took it to Mesa (I live near Petaluma) and they replaced the tubes and one of the 10" speakers for free. Never raised the expired warranty or multiple ownership as a issue. Just did the work and made it right for free.

More recently (last year), I took in a M-Pulse 600 that had a power drop issue... they replaced the mosfets for free also... again, never raised the warrant or multiple owner history of this head as an issue.

This (and of course killer tone) has made me a life-long customer.

That's good info. That sounds like the service I've gotten from Bag End in the past.

I've tried to call Customer Service twice and not gotten ahold of anyone. Just a voice mail. I am at work during the Customer Service hours and not available by phone. The warranty says that a subsequent owner can have the warranty transferred by contacting Customer Service with the info on the amp. But I can't seem to get through. Maybe I can just leave the info on the voice mail and hope that that is good enough.

Other than that the M6 is working out just GREAT for me. It sounds crushing through a pair of Bergantino HT112's. :bassist:

Awesome! I wish I could say I have had that experience. Mesa just gave me a hard time about actually having the receipt and all. I am thinking shouldn't you have a date it was first purchased from the dealer based on serial number and hence the start of the warranty time, but I guess it is not that simple:hmm:. Can you say database? Say it with me Mesa.

I bought an early M6, a Fathom, here on TB. I am the third owner. It stopped producing any sound at some point after I had it for a while. All Mesa CS asked me for was the serial #. It was still under warranty and after some performing some tests over the phone the tech determined it was probably the preamp tube. They sent one right away and that was it. Couldn't have been easier. After my experience I'm surprised to hear that they gave you a hard time.

Thank you, CElton. Appreciate the reply.

Yes it the one. It will eat up batteries fairly quickly though.

Thank you for the confirmation on the pedal. It's too bad that they didn't make a provision for a power supply. I could run it off of a Voodoo PP2.

I need to give them a call and see if I can just drive over to Washington and pick one of these up since they are local. I'm not liking the mute arrangement on the volume control.

One other thing you'll find somewhat annoying, which will be resolved by using a pedal with an LED, is the mute light doesn't work unless you mute using the knob. For some reason, if you mute using a footswitch, the mute indicator doesn't work.

For all M6 lovers,

I'm about to pull the trigger on an M6. The only thing that I'm worried about is this : I'm afraid it's a one trick pony, given it only has Bass/Mid/Treble for tweaking tone.

I know I could buy an M9 but it has too much power for my needs.

Am I overly worried ? What's your take on this ?

And another question. I heard a lot of good things about the M6-Ph212 paring. Is the "same" with two Ph112 instead of a Ph212 ?

I tend toward an amp that gives me the power I need and has a great basic tone. I like to make tonal changes with my basses EQ and my hand dynamics. The M6 seems to work real well for me. And when in add the pre-set tones it can tonally go a lot of directions very fast. So I'm not sure that "one-trick pony" fits for this amp at all.
